Whether at phenomenological or microscopic levels, most theoretical approaches to charge transport through molecular junctions postulate or attempt to justify microscopically the existence of a dominant molecular orbital (MO). Within such single level descriptions, experimental current-voltage I-V curves are sometimes/often analyzed by using analytical formulas expressing the current as a cubic...
The Space Telescope Imaging Spectrograph (STIS) was designed to achieve a signal-to-noise of at least 100:1 per resolution element. MAMA observations during Servicing Mission Orbital Verification (SMOV) confirm that this specification can be met. From analysis of a single spectrum of GD153, with counting statistics of ∼ 165 a S/N of ∼ 125 is achieved per spectral resolution element in the FUV o...
An investigation of the structure and dynamics of the high-energy ionic liquid, 1-hydroxyethyl-4-amino-1,2,4-triazolium nitrate (HEATN), was undertaken. Both experimental and computational methods were employed to understand the fundamental properties, characteristics, and behavior of HEATN. The charge separation, according to the electrostatic potential derived charges, was assessed. The MP2 (...
The authors have reviewed 15 cases of orbital dermoids representing 6% of orbital tumours seen at the University of British Columbia Orbital Clinic. They tended to occur as either asymptomatic superficial lesions in children or as complicated deep lesions in adolescents and adults. The superficial lesions were as frequent medially as laterally and could be dealt with by a direct uncomplicated s...
We report how closely the Kohn-Sham highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) eigenvalues of 11 density functional theory (DFT) functionals, respectively, correspond to the negative ionization potentials (-IPs) and electron affinities (EAs) of a test set of molecules. We also report how accurately the HOMO-LUMO gaps of these methods predict the low...
Sixty-six consecutive cases undergoing enucleation with the insertion of the Roper-Hall magnetic implant at the Birmingham and Midland Eye Hospital (BMEH) were followed up to re-establish the rate of extrusion. It was possible to study the records of all 66 patients. An extrusion rate of 1.5% was found.
COVER PICTURE Lando P. Wolters and F. Matthias Bickelhaupt* The cover picture illustrates the authors' quantum chemical finding that π electrons can significantly bend otherwise linear d(10)-ML2 complexes through backbonding. The foreground features a typical series of linear and nonlinear computed equilibrium geometries, while, in the background, one discerns quantitative numerical output of t...
BACKGROUND High-resolution endoscopes and the advent of endoscopic instruments for sinus surgery provide surgeons with excellent endonasal visualization and access to the orbital walls. OBJECTIVE To demonstrate repair of orbital floor blowout fractures through an intranasal endoscopic approach that allows repair of the orbital floor fracture and elevation of the orbital content using a balloo...
The multidimensional channel capacity studies indicate that the employment of multiple photon degrees of freedom-such as subcarrier, amplitude, phase, polarization, and space-can improve the spectral efficiency by several orders of magnitude higher than that claimed in any fiber-optic experiment reported to date. This dramatic increase in spectral efficiency through multiple photon degrees of f...
INTRODUCTION Granulomatosis with polyangiitis is a systemic inflammatory disease that often presents with necrosis, granuloma formation and vasculitis of small- to medium-sized vessels. Affected patients usually present with disease of the upper respiratory tract, lungs and kidneys, but this disease has been reported to involve almost any organ. We report the case of a patient with ocular manif...
