To provide students with a practical knowledge of networking, the K.U.Leuven organizes design projects, complementary to the theoretical courses. Master students in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications option) design a network for a specific service in a specific environment. During the academic year 2000-2001, students worked on one of the following topics: voice traffic on leased lines,...
The low cost and easy deployment of Wireless LAN 802.11 standard means it becomes more and more popular, but it has a vital drawback with regard to Quality of Service (QoS). QoS defines the ability of network to introduce consistent services for data transmission, and is evaluated in terms of specific parameters such as jitter, delay, and packet loss. These parameters describe data traffic qual...
The aim of this paper is to evaluate the throughput performance of IEEE802.11n WLANs using a well-known commercial simulator called OPNET Modeler. We study the effects of IP packet size, Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS), Channel Bonding, number of MIMO spatial streams, Block Acknowledgement (BA) and Type of Service (ToS)/Access Category (AC) on maximum throughput and Throughput Efficiency (TE...
With various wireless technologies coming up, performance of the wireless networks has become a concern. Mobile WiMAX is expected to be the wireless technology of the next generation as it supports vehicular mobility with broad coverage area. Among various other parameters which affect network performance, the terrain feature on which the network is deployed and the pathloss model affects the n...
Modeling and Simulation methodology permits analytic and mathematic performance estimation. Recent switched router systems have been more complicated and functional, and so performance estimation is more difficult. This paper shows application capability about a Modeling and Simulation methodology to that problem. Key-Words: QoS, DiffServ, OPNET, Modeling, Simulation, FSM, CLS-40.
In this paper, we evaluate Scalable Coherent Interface (SCI) as avionics real-time network. An OPNET based SCI node model is established. The results of our preliminary experiments show that a certain utilization of network load should be maintained in order to guarantee the timely delivery of real-time messages in avionics system where basic SCI ring is adopted.
This paper presents a simulation study of eLearning classroom using iPads as mobile devices based on the wireless LAN with IEEE 802.11b protocol. Moreover, this paper presents a simulation study whether the IEEE 802.11b can support up to 25 iPads of the eLearning classroom without fairness problems on a shared Wireless LAN. The simulation is performed by OPNET IT Guru Academic Edition 9.1.
