The preparation of ruthenium(0) nanoclusters supported on hydroxyapatite and their characterization by a combination of complementary techniques are described. The resultant ruthenium(0) nanoclusters provide high activity and reusability in the complete hydrogenation of aromatics under mild conditions (at 25 degrees C and with 42 psi initial H(2) pressure).

A copper-mediated aerobic coupling reaction enables direct amidation of heterocycles or aromatics having weakly acidic C-H bonds with a variety of nitrogen nucleophiles. These reactions provide efficient access to many biologically important skeletons, including ones with the potential to serve as inhibitors of HMTs.

o-Alkynylarenenitriles when heated with Pd(OAc)2/H2O/(±)-CSA in DMSO undergo simultaneous alkyne oxidation and nitrile hydration to give 3-aryl-3-hydroxy-2,3-dihydroazanaphthoquinones. Upon treatment with (±)-CSA, these compounds form 3-arylazanaphthoquinones in situ, which add to electron-rich aromatics and terminal alkene/alkyne to afford 3,3-disubstituted-2,3-dihydroazanaphthoquinones.

Cyclophane-type macrocyclic compounds from 21 to 56 members having two fused dihydrofuran rings were synthesized by the manganese(III)-mediated oxidation of terminal dienes with bis(3-oxobutanoate)s containing aromatics. The reaction detail, characterization and reaction pathways are described.

Hydrocracking of methyldecalin over Pd/REX has been studied with surface sensitive techniques in the critical temperature range 325– 3508C. Results from in situ characterization of adsorbed species, and post-reaction analysis of the catalyst surface by infrared and photoemission spectroscopies, were related to product distributions. The results are discussed in light of quantum chemical calcula...

7,12-Dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (7,12-DMBA) exerts adrenocorticolytic effects which set it apart from all other polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons and aromatic amines which have been investigated. Adrenal damage by this compound appears to be due to its steric and electronic properties together with its unusually high solubility in lipides. Many compounds given prior to 7,12-DMBA induced protecti...

The present paper addressed the production of soot precursors, acetylene, benzene and higher aromatics, by the paraffinic (n-, iso-, and cyclo-) and aromatic components in fuels. To this end, a normal heptane mechanism compiled from sub-models in the literature was extended to large normal-, iso-, and cyclo-paraffins by assigning generic rates to reactions involving paraffins, olefins, and alky...

Phosphoenolpyruvate (PEP) is a precursor involved in the biosynthesis of aromatics and other valuable compounds in Escherichia coli. The PEP:carbohydrate phosphotransferase system (PTS) is the major glucose transport system and the largest PEP consumer. To increase intracellular PEP availability for aromatics production purposes, mutant strains of E. coli JM101 devoid of the ptsHIcrr operon (PB...

In this study, Iran crude oil samples (K, L) were separated on the basis of solubility and polarity, resulting in saturates, aromatics, resins, and asphaltenes fractions. The fractions were analyzed by traditional open column chromatography, thin layer chromatography-Flame ionization detector in an Itroscan instrument (TLC-FID) and Gas chromatography with flame ionization detection for the dete...
