OBJECTIVE To provide an account of the state of diet and chronic disease research designs and methods; to discuss the role and potential of aggregate and analytical observational studies and randomised controlled intervention trials; and to propose strategies for strengthening each type of study, with particular emphasis on the use of nutrient biomarkers in cohort study settings. DESIGN Obser...

Biogeochemical cycle of mercury (Hg) is a complicated series of biotic and abiotic reactions, from which formation of monomethylmercury (MeHg) is widely considered as the most important, due to the proven toxicity of MeHg [1]. Organomercury forms have a pronounced capability of bioaccumulation (incorporation in cells and tissues of living organisms) and biomagnification (transport through troph...

abstract pistachio ( pistacia vera l.) is an important crop in our country and has a unique position in export goods. in respect to better nut quality this research was conducted during 2005-2006. macro and micronutrients were used as foliar application to surmount soil limitations in nutrient uptake and alternate bearing control with “owhadi” cultivar in rcbd with 3 replications. the treatment...

The purpose of this study was to investigate the response of physicochemical properties of gerbera (Gerbera Jamesonii L.) to silica nanoparticles (Nanoparticle-SiO2) and calcium chelate (Ca-Chelate) in nutrient solutions. A factorial experiment based on completely randomized design with two factors was conducted in four replicates. The first factor the concentration of Nanoparticle-SiO2 in nutr...

The aim of this study is investigates the effects of different patches shrubs on the soil surface indicators in Gub Gugeh rangelands, in Golestan Province. The sampling was taken along transects of 50 meters, which are 10 meters away from each other. Via LFA models, three factors of stability, infiltration and nutrient cycling using 11 indicators of surface soil in patch and inter-patch were me...

Soil organic carbon (SOC) represents a significant reservoir of carbon within the global carbon cycle that has been estimated to account for 1,200–1,550 Pg C to a depth of 1 m and for 2370–2450 Pg C to a depth of 2 m (Eswaran et al. 1995; Lal 2004a). Comparative estimates of organic C contained in living biomass (560 Pg) and atmospheric CO2-C (760 Pg) (Lal 2004a) indicate that variations in the...

This work is undertaken to develop a methodology to enhance the management of dredged marine an the North of France. The main objective of this study is to determine the main characteristics of these sediments. In this order, physical, mineralogical and chemical properties of both types of sediments are measured. Moreover, their potential impacts on the environment are assessed throughout leach...

The authors present an epizootiological analysis of myxomatosis in Poland. The biological, physical and chemical properties of virus strains used for the production and control of 'Myxovac M' vaccine are discussed. The long-term stability, safety and efficacy of the vaccine are demonstrated. Laboratory experiments were confirmed in large-scale field observations.

Hairy roots are plants genetically transformed by Agrobacterium rhizogenes, which do not produce shoots and are composed mainly by roots. Hairy roots of Ophiorrhiza mungos Linn. are currently gaining interest of pharmacologists, since a secondary product of their metabolism, camptothecin, is used in chemotherapy. To optimize the production of valuable secondary metabolites it is necessary to un...
