BACKGROUND Different serological tests are used in serologic diagnosis of brucellosis. The most widely used of these are Standard Tube Agglutination and Coombs anti-brucella tests. Whereas ELISA Ig M and Ig G tests have been in use for a long time, immuncapture agglutination test has been recently introduced and used in serological diagnosis. The aim of this study was to compare diagnostic valu...

A one-stage macroscopic test for platelet agglutination was used to study the effect of thrombin and thrombin-cation mixtures on washed platelets. Conclusions regarding platelet agglutination are as follows: (a) Canine, bovine, or human thrombin alone does not cause agglutination of canine or human platelets. (b) Thrombin with calcium or magnesium causes rapid platelet agglutination. Both calci...

A microtechnique has been developed and adapted successfully to the microscopic agglutination test with live antigens for detection of leptospiral antibodies. Simultaneous titrations were performed by the conventional microscopic agglutination test and the microtechnique. When the microtechnique was used to screen 50 unknown leptospiral strains with a battery of hyperimmune sera, 98% agreement ...

In order to demonstrate that cells of Candida spp. may show considerable nonspecific agglutination in latex agglutination tests, 150 clinical and reference isolates of 12 yeast species were systematically studied by applying various test parameters. In fact, 40 (26.7%) of these isolates revealed nonspecific results, significantly associated with the time allowed for agglutination.

One hundred strains of Escherichia coli were tested for the production of the heat-labile enterotoxin by the Y1 adrenal cell test and a commercially available reversed passive latex agglutination test. The strains were grown in Casamino Acids-yeast extract broth, and filtered culture supernatants were tested for the presence of heat-labile enterotoxin. There was perfect correlation between the ...

For a long time, traditional client-server communication was the predominant communication paradigm of the Internet. Network Address Translation devices (NAT) emerged to help with the limited availability of IP addresses and were designed with the hypothesis of asymmetric connection establishment in mind. But with the growing success of peer-to-peer applications, this assumption is no longer tr...

A passive microcapsule agglutination test for the diagnosis of leptospirosis was developed by utilizing chemically stable microcapsules instead of sheep erythrocytes. In the test, sonically disrupted antigens of leptospira were sensitized to microcapsules treated with glutaraldehyde. Compared with the microscopic agglutination test, the passive microcapsule agglutination test showed a relativel...

For culture-negative meningitis, use of the latex agglutination test for detection of bacterial antigen in the CSF has a sensitivity of only 7%. Routine use of the latex agglutination test may not contribute to the management of suspected acute bacterial meningitis, since patients are treated on the basis of their clinical presentations and CSF findings.

OBJECTIVE To assess the operational feasibility of detecting human African trypanosomiasis by active and passive case finding using the card agglutination test with serial dilution of serum to guide treatment. SETTING Trypanosomiasis control programme in the Negage focus, northern Angola, during a period of civil war. DESIGN Observational study. PARTICIPANTS 359 patients presenting themse...

Neospora is a newly recognized Toxoplasma-like cyst-forming coccidian parasite that causes abortion or congenital infections in naturally or experimentally infected animals. In this study, pregnant rhesus macaques were inoculated with culture-derived tachyzoites of a bovine Neospora isolate, and tissue samples from various major organs were collected from dams and fetuses for the detection of p...
