Molecular devices are reported utilizing active self-assembled monolayers containing the nitroamine @28-amino-4,48-di~ethynylphenyl!-58-nitro-1-benzenethiolate# or the nitro compound @4,48-di~ethynylphenyl!-28-nitro-1-benzenethiolate# as the active components. Both of these compounds have active redox centers. Current–voltage measurements of the devices exhibited negative differential resistanc...

In this work, we discuss multiplayer pervasive games that rely on the use of ad hoc mobile sensor networks. The unique feature in such games is that players interact with each other and their surrounding environment by using movement and presence as a means of performing game-related actions, utilizing sensor devices. We discuss the fundamental issues and challenges related to these type of gam...

The importance of Post-Occupancy Evaluation (POE) surveys is paramount in understanding building performance and evaluating building technologies. However, only a small percentage of completed buildings go through a POE. A reason is that clients and non-specialist designers often do not see the value POE can add, and consider it a specialist pursuit. This paper presents ways developed to addres...

We present new X-ray observations of the nucleus, jet and extended emission of the nearby radio galaxy NGC 6251 using the Chandra/ACIS-S camera, together with a reanal-ysis of archival Chandra/ACIS-I and XMM-Newton/EPIC data. We find that the nuclear X-ray spectrum is well-fitted with an absorbed power-law, and that there is tentative, but not highly significant, evidence for Fe Kα emission. We...

Smooth pursuit eye movements have been linked to perception by a common attentional mechanism. We investigated whether perceptual performance was traded for smooth pursuit performance. While tracking a red target cross, observers had to discriminate the orientation of a flashed peripheral grating. Wemanipulated the priority given to the two tasks. Pursuit gain changed according to observers’ ef...

Due to its open characteristic, the Web is being posted with vast amount of new information, or Changes continuously. Consequently, at any time, it is conceivable that there will be hot issues (emerging topics) being discussed in any information area on the Web. However, it is not practical for the user to browse the Web manually all the time for the Changes. Thus, we need this Information Area...

In this paper we prove that the level sets of the first non–constant eigenfunction of the Neumann Laplacian on a convex planar domain have only finitely many connected components. This problem is motivated, in part, by the “hot spots” conjecture of J. Rauch. ∗Supported in part by NSF Grant # 9700585-DMS

There are four main differences between the meta-databases for assessment and control systems and databases for bibliographic systems, and the like. The first is the need for speed in generating and updating the meta-database. Secondly there is the spatio-temporal aspects of the information handled. The third difference is the large volume and variety of information to be managed and to be tran...
