The title compound, C(20)H(24)O(5), isolated from Rabdosia var. lophanthoides Hara, is built up from six fused rings. Cyclo-hexane ring A adopts a chair conformation, ring B exists in a screw-boat conformation and ring C adopts a boat conformation; the three five-membered rings D, E and F adopt envelope conformations.

Infrared spectra of binary mixtures of water with hexane and decane were measured at temperatures and pressures in the 473-648 K and 70-350 bar ranges, respectively. Volumetric concentrations of water and the hydrocarbons in the mixtures were obtained from absorption intensities of the fundamental OH stretching band of HDO and combination transitions of the hydrocarbons. Using both the concentr...

Novel shape- and structural-controlled superparamagnetic nanostructures composed of self-supported spherical and rod-like CoFe(2)O(4) colloidal nanocrystals have been prepared by thermolysis of a stoichiometric Co(2+)Fe(2)(3+)-oleate complex in organic solution with periodic injection of hexane for controlling the nucleation, assembly, and growth of the nuclei.

In the deca-hydro-phenanthrenone ring system of the title compound, C(27)H(44)O, the two cyclo-hexane rings adopt chair conformations, whereas the cyclo-hexene ring adopts an envelope conformation. The cyclo-pentane ring is twisted. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are stacked along the a axis, but no significant inter-molecular inter-actions are observed.

The relative rates of the aldol reaction catalyzed by supported primary and secondary amines can be inverted by 2 orders of magnitude, depending on the use of hexane or water as a solvent. Our analyses suggest that this dramatic shift in the catalytic behavior of the supported amines does not involve differences in reaction mechanism, but is caused by activation of imine to enamine equilibria a...

The title compound, C20H26O2, crystallized with one half-mol-ecule in the asymmetric unit. The whole mol-ecule is generated by inversion symmetry, with the center of inversion being situated at the mid-point of the central -CH2-CH2- bond of the bridging hexane chain. In the crystal, mol-ecules stack in columns along the b axis. C-H⋯π inter-actions are present within the columns.

In the title compound, C24H32BrN3O2, the six-membered cyclo-hexane ring adopts a chair conformation and the isoxasolidine ring adopts a twisted conformation. The mol-ecule has five chiral centres and the absolute configuration has been determined in this analysis. The mol-ecular structure is stabilized by weak intra-molecular C-H⋯O and C-H⋯N contacts. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by N-...

The title compound, C(11)H(13)ClO(3), has been obtained in the reaction of 2, 4-dihydroxy-lacetonephenone, potassium carbonate and 1-bromo-3-chloro-hexane. The hydr-oxy group is involved in an intra-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen bond. The crystal packing exhibits no significantly short inter-molecular contacts.

In the title compound, C22H27BrO3, the cyclo-hexane ring adopts a chair conformation. The dihedral angle between the benzene rings is 41.9 (4)°. In the crystal, mol-ecules are linked by O-H⋯O and C-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, forming a three-dimensional network. In addition, π-π stacking inter-actions [centroid-centroid distance = 3.953 (6) Å] between the benzene rings of the meth-oxy-benzene groups oc...

In the title racemic compound, C(14)H(10)ClNO(3), which contains four stereogenic centres, the cyclo-hexane ring tends towards a boat conformation, while the tetra-hydro-furan and dihydro-furan rings adopt envelope conformations. The dihedral angle between the mean planes of the pyrrolidine-2,5-dione unit and the 4-chloro-phenyl ring is 49.0 (2)°.
