Schultz and Yarus (1996) propose that codon reassignment takes place through ambiguously translating intermediates, meaning ‘‘the supposition that codons are read ambiguously by two tRNAs (a tRNA and an RF [release factor] in the case of terminations), specifying insertion of more than one amino acid (or an amino acid as well as stop).’’ In simple terms, they propose that a codon can have two m...

Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. capri and Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides LC can be combined into one taxon on the basis of several contributions on both DNA sequence and protein analyses reported in the literature. Moreover, for the differentiation and identification of mycoplasmas of the "mycoides cluster", we investigated the rpoB gene, encoding the beta-subunit of the RNA polymerase. A segme...

Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides is generally considered one of most pathogenic Mycoplasma species, and it is the etiological agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP). Here, we present the annotated genome sequence of M. mycoides subsp. mycoides Italian strain 57/13, isolated in 1992 during CBPP outbreaks in Italy.

Members of the Mycoplasma mycoides cluster' represent important livestock pathogens worldwide. Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides is the etiologic agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP), which is still endemic in many parts of Africa. We report the genome sequences and annotation of two frequently used challenge strains of Mycoplasma mycoides subsp. mycoides, Afadé and B237. The inf...

In this study, by using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) diagnosis for the detection and identification of Mycoplasma, we investigated mycoplasmas contaminating the semen of yearling bulls affected by seminal vesiculitis. The bulls presented neither subclinical nor clinical contagious bovine pleuropneumonia signs and the complement fixation test for specific antibodies was negative. Furtherm...

The history of the field of total synthesis demonstrates that there is value in constructing novel products from simpler building blocks, a value that extends beyond that of the products themselves. “New synthetic methods are often incorporated into the synthetic schemes towards the target, and the exercise of the total synthesis becomes an opportunity for the invention and discovery of new che...
