An 18-month-old male entire Bloodhound dog was presented with a six-week history of progressive inspiratory dyspnoea, stridor, dysphonia and exercise intolerance. CT scan performed elsewhere had revealed the presence of an unencapsulated nodular mass (3x1x5 cm) dorsal to the larynx and first tracheal rings. Laryngoscopy demonstrated the presence of bilateral laryngeal paralysis and distorted la...
Received July 2006 Accepted March 2007 INTRODUCTION Lymphangiomas are benign tumors or malformations of lymphatic vessels. They are most commonly seen in the neck, axillary region, and mediastinum. Hygroma renalis is a type of lymphangioma (lymphangiectasia) located in the pericalyceal area and is therefore named as pericalyceal lymphangiectasis.(1,2) Hygroma renalis is usually asymptomatic and...
We analyzed the sphericity of the femoral head of dysplastic hips. Using standard anterior-posterior radiographs of the hips, we assessed the femoral head's deviation from a spherical shape using a computer algorithm and via Severin grading. The method presented could serve as a useful tool to quantify differences in sphericity in cases where it is difficult to grade the hip radiologically.
Background Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the most common primary malignancy of the liver and the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths. In the liver, carcinoma is the end result of progression through dysplasia as follows: • Dysplastic foci (cytologically atypical, less than 1 mm in diameter, identified incidentally) • Dysplastic nodules (cytologically and/or structurally atypica...
Received March 2008 Accepted September 2008 INTRODUCTION Angiosarcoma is a rare high-grade malignant tumor accounting for less than 2% of the soft tissue sarcomas.(1) They originate from the endothelium of the blood and lymphatic vessels and can be primary or metastatic, and localized or multicentric. Most angiosarcomas develop in the skin or soft tissue, and others, in the breast, liver, and b...
atresia with tracheoesophageal fistula (TEF), increased cardio-thoracic ratio, Altman’s type I SCT (Fig. 1), and left multicystic kidney. Thoracotomy with staged repair of Vogt type3b was performed. Postoperatively patient developed sclerema and died. Echocardiography to confirm the presence of cardiac anomalies, and tumor markers for teratoma were not possible due to resource constraints. In a...
PURPOSE To assess clinical and radiological results of combined pelvic osteotomy (CPO) for deformed dysplastic acetabula. METHODS Nine girls and 3 boys, aged 28 to 54 months, underwent CPO (combination of innominate osteotomy and Lance acetabuloplasty) to restore both the original shape and the mal-alignment of the acetabulum. They were followed up for at least 5 years. RESULTS All patients...
Dysplasia is linked to altered tissue architecture. The lesion belongs into the diagnostic field of human pathology and is highly relevant for the clinical physician, because it breaks the criteria of hyperplasia and regeneration. Dysplasia is a precancerous disorder leading in all probability to malignant transformation if not treated. However, different descriptions do apply for dysplasia in ...
