What is a computable set? One may call a bounded subset of the plane computable if it can be drawn at any resolution on a computer screen. Using the constructive approach to computability one naturally considers totally bounded subsets of the plane. We connect this notion with notions introduced in other frameworks. A subset of a totally bounded set is again totally bounded iff it is located. L...

The study examined the generalizability of the learning advantages produced by instructions that induce an external relative to an internal focus of attention (e.g., Wulf, G., H oû, M., & Prinz, W. (1998). Instructions for motor learning: Di€erential e€ects of internal versus external focus of attention. Journal of Motor Behavior, 30, 169±179.) to the feedback provided to the learner. This paper presents structural estimates of bidding behavior in eBay computer monitor auctions. We use our estimates to reject the use of Jump Bidding (Avery 1998) or “Snipe or War” bidding (Roth and Ockenfels, 2000). We also find that longer auctions only have a small effect on price and experienced auctioneers respond to this incentive. JEL Classification Numbers: C1, C7, D44, L1.

What: Project LISTEN is developing a novel weapon against illiteracy: an automated reading coach that displays a story on a computer screen, listens to a child read it aloud, and helps where 1. needed. The coach provides a combination of reading and listening, in which the child reads wherever possible, and the coach helps wherever necessary. We demonstrated a prototype of this coach at the ARP...

The author describes a recent composition for piano and computer in which the score performed by the pianist, read from a computer display, is generated in real-time from a vocabulary of predetermined scanned score excerpts. The author outlines the algorithm used to choose and display a particular excerpt and describes some of the musical difficulties faced by the pianist in a performance of th...

Many theories have been developed that attempt to explain innovation-driven organizational transformation, each with their respective models. Most process models use geometric shapes to represent variables of interest, and lines and arrows to show effects and relationships. While these models are useful for illustrating direct causality, they are less useful for illustrating more complex intera...

In this research, we present the concept of Hyperaudio as non-linear presentation of auditory information in the context of underlying theoretical assumptions of how Hyperaudio differs from existing non-linear information media. We present a study comparing text and auditory represented information either in a linear or non-linear manner and the interaction of these presentation formats with di...
