Abstract. U -quantiles are applied in robust statistics, like the Hodges-Lehmann estimator of location for example. They have been analyzed in the case of independent random variables with the help of a generalized Bahadur representation. Our main aim is to extend these results to U -quantiles of strongly mixing random variables and functionals of absolutely regular sequences. We obtain the cen...

We present a short discussion on the expected magnitude of |Ue3| in the context of various scenarios proposed to describe neutrino masses and mixing. Generic expectation is relatively large (> 0.05) values for |Ue3| which occur in many well-motivated theoretical scenarios and models.

The thesis consider the mixing of few (3-4) card shuffling as well as of large (52 card) deck. The thesis is showing the limit on the shuffling to homogeneity elaborated in short program; the thesis is in italian.

Understanding the disparate mixing patterns between quarks and leptons is one of the major challenges in particle theory today. I discuss some of the ways to understand this difference within the seesaw framework using new symmetries of quarks and leptons. After a brief introduction to the various types of seesaw formulae, proposals for understanding large solar and atmospheric mixings for the ...

We review and update the effects of physics beyond the standard model on CP asymmetries in B decays. These asymmetries can be significantly altered if there are important new-physics contributions to B q -B 0 q mixing. This same new physics will therefore also contribute to rare, flavor-changing B decays. Through a study of such decays, we show that it is possible to partially distinguish the d...

We prove that for every bounded linear operator T : X → X, where X is a non-reflexive quotient of a von Neumann algebra, the point spectrum of T ∗ is non-empty (i.e. for some λ ∈ C the operator λI − T fails to have dense range.) In particular, and as an application, we obtain that such a space cannot support a topologically transitive operator.

We present a sufficient condition that a pseudointegrable system has weak mixing property. The result is derived from Veech’s weak mixing theorem for interval exhange [Veech, W.A. Amer.J.Math. 106, 1331 (1984)]. We also present an example whose weak mixing property can be proved by the result.

Explicit analysical expression is derived for mixing matrix of three neutrions in matter using a set of direct vacuum physical parameters. Results are presented in simple, symmetrical form. The physical contents are more clear than using of tradtional mixing angles. There is no problem about mixing orders.

This article reports world averages for measurements on b-hadron properties obtained by the Heavy Flavor Averaging Group (HFAG) using the available results as of summer 2004 conferences. In the averaging, the input parameters used in the various analyses are adjusted (rescaled) to common values, and all known correlations are taken into account. The averages include b-hadron lifetimes, B-oscill...
