This study investigates the contributions of artificial intelligence to the development of decision support systems research subspecialties. Author cocitation analysis was applied to an author cocitation frequency matrix derived from a comprehensive database of the DSS literature (1970-1995) to uncover twelve clusters consisting of six major areas of DSS research (foundations, group DSS, model ...

Purpose –The knowledge of artefact design in design science research can have an important application in the improvement of decision support systems (DSS) development research. Recent DSS literature has identified a significant need to develop user-centric DSS method for greater relevance with respect to context of use. To address this, this study develops a collective DSS design artefact as m...

BACKGROUND Patients with developmental spinal stenosis (DSS) are susceptible to developing symptomatic stenosis due to pre-existing narrowed spinal canals. DSS has been previously defined by MRI via the axial anteroposterior (AP) bony spinal canal diameter. However, MRI is hardly a cost-efficient tool for screening patients. X-rays are superior due to its availability and cost, but currently, t...

BACKGROUND Hyperhomocysteinaemia [HHcy] is a common phenomenon observed in patients with inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]. Homocysteine is a pro-inflammatory molecule and has been identified as a risk factor for cardiovascular and cerebral diseases. Whether HHcy contributes to the chronic inflammation of the colon in IBD has rarely been explored. The aim of this study was to investigate the eff...

The effects of modulating tetrahydrobiopterin (BH4) levels with a metabolic precursor, sepiapterin (SP), on dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)–induced colitis and azoxymethane (AOM)–induced colorectal cancer were studied. SP in the drinking water blocks DSS-induced colitis measured as decreased disease activity index (DAI), morphologic criteria, and recovery of Ca-induced contractility responses lost...

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), consisting of Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis (UC), results in substantial morbidity and is difficult to treat. New strategies for adjunct therapies are needed. One candidate is the semi-essential amino acid, L-arginine (L-Arg), a complementary medicine purported to be an enhancer of immunity and vitality in the lay media. Using dextran sulfate sodium (D...

This paper considers distributed storage systems (DSSs) from a graph theoretic perspective. A DSS is constructed by means of the path decomposition of a 3regular graph into P4 paths. The paths represent the disks of the DSS and the edges of the graph act as the blocks of storage. We deduce the properties of the DSS from a related graph and show their optimality.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is multifactorial and involves immunological, environmental and genetic factors. Although there are no animal models that effectively mimic human IBD, experimental models allow us to analyze the mechanisms of chronic intestinal inflammation. IBD can be induced in mice by dextran sulfate sodium (DSS) or by a 2,4,6-trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBS)‑ethanol enem...

Widespread replication of information can ameliorate the problem of server overloading but raises the allied question of server selection. Clients may be assigned to a replica in a static manner or they may choose among replicas based on client-initiated measurements. The latter technique, called dynamic server selection (DSS), can provide signi®cantly improved response time to users when compa...
