In the paper, we investigate the crossover operators for a vehicle routing problem where only feasible solutions are taken into account. New crossover operators are proposed that are based on the common sequence in the parent solutions. Random insertion heuristic is used as a reconstruction method in a crossover operator to preserve stochastic characteristics of the genetic algorithm. The genet...

During meiosis, homologous chromosomes pair to facilitate the exchange of DNA at crossover sites along the chromosomes. The frequency and distribution of crossover formation are tightly regulated to ensure the proper progression of meiosis. Using immunofluorescence techniques, our group and others have studied the meiotic proteins in spermatocytes of infertile men, showing that this population ...

OBJECTIVE The course of anorexia nervosa often includes the emergence of bulimic symptoms and a crossover to the full syndrome of bulimia nervosa. However, clinicians' ability to predict who will develop bulimia nervosa is limited. The converse phenomenon, crossover from bulimia nervosa to anorexia nervosa, has not been investigated as thoroughly. The authors identified factors that are associa...

Questions are raised as to the validity of arguments that crossover positions have been demonstrated to be normally established only during pachytene (after synapsis is maximal). An alternative and testable hypothesis is that crossover commitment can occur at events of synaptic initiation.-Measurements are presented of extents of pachytene synapsis and failure in and around a region of maize ch...

A correlation analysis will be applied to subspaces of the t-ness landscape generated by the synchronization task for one-dimensional cellular automata. This results in a stochastic model that can be used to characterize the correlation structure of those subspaces. The results show that both subspaces can be characterized by an AR(2) model, both for point mutation and crossover.

The crossover closure generation rule characterizes the generalization achieved by artificial immune systems using partial match detection. The paper reviews earlier results and extends the previously introduced notion of crossover closure to encompass additional match rules. For concreteness, the discussion focuses on r-chunks matching, giving alternative ways that detectors can be used to imp...

In this paper we contrast two important information technologies in the realm of Business Integration: Process Integration and Extract-Transform-Load (ETL) Technology. After a short characterization and description of either technology, we argue for a technology crossover that results in a synergy of the available technologies, and thus realizes a more complete and superior approach. A technolo...

Mutation and crossover are the main search operators of different variants of evolutionary algorithms. Despite the many discussions on the importance of crossover nobody has proved rigorously for some explicitly defined fitness functions fn : {0, 1} n → R that a genetic algorithm with crossover (but without idealization) can optimize fn in expected polynomial time while all evolution strategies...

We study the crossover scaling behavior of the height-height correlation function in interface depinning in random media. We analyze experimental data from a fracture experiment and simulate an elastic line model with nonlinear couplings and disorder. Both exhibit a crossover between two different universality classes. For the experiment, we fit a functional form to the universal crossover scal...

Sex differences in recombination are widespread in mammals, but the causes of this pattern are poorly understood. Previously, males from two interfertile subspecies of house mice, Mus musculus musculus and M. m. castaneus, were shown to exhibit a ∼30% difference in their global crossover frequencies. Much of this crossover rate divergence is explained by six autosomal loci and a large-effect lo...
