Blattella germanica (L.) that were fed hydramethylnon bait produced residues that were toxic to exposed conspecifics. Insecticidal activity was traced to the feces of treated insects by feeding radiolabeled material, where approximately 50% of the recovered radioactivity was unmetabolized parent compound. Ingestion of toxicant-laden feces by all life stages was evident, but the effect of this b...

Concerning four Stachys spp. (Lamiaceae) from the Oltenia flora, paper highlights polyphenolic content of aerial parts through high-performance thin-layer chromatography coupled with photodensitometry. Chlorogenic acid (CA) was identified and quantified in all 20% methanolic extracts Stachydisherba. The highest CA amount determined S. recta (59.88 mg%), followed by sylvatica (32.90 officinalis ...

Four isoflavone glycosides were isolated from the rhizomes of Iris germanica. Compounds 1 and 2 are new, while compounds 3 and 4 are known isoflavone glycosides. These compounds were identified as iriskashmirianin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (1), nigricin 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (2), irilone 4'-O-beta-D-glucoside (3) and iridin (4). Their structures were determined with the help of spectroscopic methods.

INTRODUCTION Infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-producing isolates pose a major worldwide public health problem today. METHODS A carbapenem-resistant Proteus mirabilis clinical isolate was investigated for plasmid profiles and the occurrence of β-lactamase genes. RESULTS The isolate exhibited resistance to ertapenem and imipenem and was susceptible to meropenem, ...

Shigella flexneri serotype 2 variant (II:3,4,7,8) was isolated in 2008 and first reported in China in 2013. In the present study, epidemiological surveillance from 2003 to 2013 in China suggested that this serotype first appeared in Guangxi in 2003; it then emerged in Shanghai and Xinjiang in 2004 and in Henan in 2008. Of the 1813 S. flexneri isolates, 58 S. flexneri serotype 2 variant strains ...

The presence of Gram-negative bacteria in cuticle and alimentary tract of cockroaches collected from four selected areas of Dhaka city was investigated. Using detection key, a total of 12 cockroaches were identified as Periplaneta americana (58.33%), Blattella germanica (33.33%) and Blatta orientalis (8.33%). From these three species 54 different bacterial isolates were obtained. Out of them, 3...

The exodermis of Iris germanica roots is multiseriate. Its outermost layer matures first with typical Casparian bands and suberin lamellae. But as subsequent layers mature, the Casparian band extends into the tangential and anticlinal walls of their cells. Compared with roots in which the endodermis represents the major transport barrier, the multiseriate exodermis (MEX) was expected to reduce ...

In many animal species, social interactions can influence the morphology, physiology and behavior of individuals, including their rate of development and reproduction. Reproduction in cockroaches is regulated by juvenile hormone III (JH), and social interactions have been shown to accelerate female reproduction in the German cockroach, Blattella germanica (L.), by stimulating JH production. How...
