A single clone of B cells producing anti-DNP antibody recognizable by the isoelectric-focusing spectrum has been used, in a double transfer system, to study clonal memory. Trasnsferable B memory develops between 4 and 7 days after the first transfer with antigen. B-memory cells thus proliferate before or concomitantly with antibody-forming cells.

Background and purpose: In the past, olibanum was used as an incense and perfume and a remedy for treating various diseases. Now, it is confirmed that olibanum improves memory and has a role in treatment and prevention of Alzheimer disease. CaMKIIα gene is known as molecular memory because of its role in cellular processes associated with memory. The aim of this research was to study the effect...
Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) uses tonsils as the portal of entry to establish persistent infection. EBV is found in various B-cell subsets in tonsils but exclusively in memory B cells in peripheral blood. The in vitro susceptibilities of B-cell subsets to EBV infection have been studied solely qualitatively. In this work, we examined quantitatively the in vitro susceptibilities of various B-cell su...
Although recent studies indicated that IL-21 is an important regulator of human B cell activation, detailed comparison of the effects of IL-21 on distinct B cell subsets have not been performed. Our studies revealed that IL-21R is expressed by naive and germinal center B cells, but not memory or plasma cells. IL-21R was increased on naive and memory B cells following in vitro activation. Invest...
OBJECTIVES To assess alterations in the composition of peripheral immune cells in acute progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML). METHODS Fresh blood samples from 5 patients with acute PML and 10 healthy controls were analyzed by flow cytometry for naive, central memory and effector memory CD4 and CD8 T cells, B lymphocytes, plasma cells, memory B cells, plasma blasts, and natural kil...
The bone marrow maintains memory CD4 T cells, which provide memory to systemic antigens. Here we demonstrate that memory CD4 T cells are reactivated by antigen in the bone marrow. In a secondary immune response, antigen-specific T cells of the bone marrow mobilize and aggregate in immune clusters together with MHC class II-expressing cells, mostly B lymphocytes. They proliferate vigorously and ...
HIV affects the function of all lymphocyte populations, including B cells. Phenotypic and functional defects of B cells in HIV-infected adults have been well characterized, but defects in children have not been studied to the same extent. We determined the proportion of B cell subsets and frequencies of Ag-specific memory B cells in peripheral blood from HIV-infected children and healthy contro...
