In studies of media effects, differences in results are predicted based on the rationale that different media have differential ability to transmit nonverbal communication. We suggest that while this rationale has validity, it is not complete, and that several other factors must be present before media effects will be observed. In this article, we argue that the situational characteristics of t...

This paper reconceptualizes LBS as new media. By doing so, a synthetic framework based upon Marshall McLuhan’s laws of the media is developed. The media and messages of LBS are discussed through a preliminary tetradic analysis. The paper concludes by arguing that the way to cope with the paradoxes of technological innovations is a major challenge in the information age.

This article compares adolescents' perceptions of the presence or absence of sexual content on television to those of researchers using three different c...

Communicating harmful messages in order to accomplish organizational goals is an unfortunate, yet unavoidable part of organizational life. Because “necessary evil” messages are often of personal consequence to the receiver, it is important the communication process be designed in a way that will minimize harm caused to both messengers and receivers without compromising communication performance...

Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) Back-to-Back User Agents (B2BUAs) are often designed to be on the media path rather than just intercepting signaling. This means that B2BUAs often act on the media path leading to separate media legs that the B2BUA correlates and bridges together. When acting on the media path, B2BUAs are likely to receive Session Traversal Utilities for NAT (STUN) packets as p...
