Dens invaginations are a rare developmental defect most commonly affecting maxillary lateral incisors, with very few reported cases in mandibular teeth. We describe a rare case of bilateral first mandibular premolar dens invaginations type I, where apparently health teeth presented with periapical pathology.
Complex and unusual root canal morphology is an often occurring phenomenon. Understanding the unusual root canal morphology contributes to success in endodontic treatment. One such variant root canal morphology is the 'S' shaped or bayonet shaped root canal. This case report discusses endodontic treatment of a maxillary second premolar with an 'S' shaped root canal.
The peripheral cementifying fibroma (PCF) is a reactive gingival overgrowth occurring frequently in the maxillary anterior region in teenagers and young adults. We report a case of peripheral cementifying fibroma occurring on the buccal gingiva in relation to the mandibular left canine & first premolar region in a 27 year old female patient.
Received: 6 Sept 2012 Accepted: 21 May 2013 Abstract Background and Aim: Tooth fracture is a common complication following MOD restorations. This study sought to assess the effect of different cusp coverage patterns on fracture resistance of maxillary premolar teeth in MOD composite restorations. Materials and Methods: In this invitro experimental study, 40human maxillary sound premolar teeth we...
Orthodontic treatment of the transposition of a maxillary canine and a first premolar: a case report
INTRODUCTION Transposition is an anomaly of tooth position, the most frequent of which involves the canine and the first maxillary premolar. We describe the orthodontic treatment of a unilateral transposition of an upper canine and an upper right first premolar in the permanent dentition. CASE PRESENTATION A 12-year-old Caucasian boy presented with transposition of his upper right canine and ...
This report describes a novel concept of relocating orthodontic mini-implants during dental distalization to provide unrestricted distal movement of the full maxillary dentition. The patient was an 18-year old Korean woman with a full-step Class II Division 1 malocclusion and mandibular deficiency. Mini-implants were initially placed bilaterally between the maxillary second premolar and the fir...
Endodontic-periodontal lesion has been a diagnostic challenge. The present case report describes a case of localized primary periodontal lesion with secondary endodontic involvement in maxillary premolar. Its management was done by root canal therapy followed by periodontal regenerative procedure using Guided tissue regeneration technique.
BACKGROUND When a young patient accidentally loses two neighboring maxillary incisors, the choice of treatment plan is difficult. Although implant restorations are a popular option, they cannot be placed until skeletal growth is finished. Furthermore, the use of two neighboring implant crowns represents a considerable challenge from an esthetic point of view. This case report describes an innov...
INTRODUCTION To obtain sufficient stability of implants, the thickness of the soft tissue and the cortical bone in the placement site must be considered. However, the literature contains few anatomical studies of orthodontic implants. METHODS To measure soft-tissue and cortical-bone thicknesses, maxillae from 23 Korean cadavers were decalcified, and buccopalatal cross-sectional specimens were...
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of nickel-titanium expander for maxillary expansion and the skeletal and dental changes associated with the expander in operated cleft palate patients. Materials and methods: Ten male unilateral cleft lip and palate patients in the age group of 9 to 13 years with transverse maxillary deficiency and with no history of bone grafting procedure, were selected fro...
