The cell lines have been established and propagated in synthetic medium M 150, supplemented with a low level of calf serum. When inocu...

Chylous ascites is a rare and challenging clinical condition that occurs as a result of disruption of the abdominal lymphatics. We include a review of the literature describing the etiology, diagnosis, and therapy of chylous ascites.
The prenatal diagnosis and perinatal outcome of two patients with isolated foetal ascites compatible with chyloperitoneum is described. The foetal ascites resolved spontaneously after delivery with good perinatal outcome in both cases. A good prognosis can be anticipated in such cases. Antepartum and intrapartum interventions are seldom necessary.
A man diagnosed with alcoholic liver cirrhosis complained of abdominal distention due to massive ascites. The ascites did not resolve with diuretic agents. The serum-ascites albumin gradient value of 1.9 g/dL and the total protein level in the ascites of 3.1 g/dL indicated the ascites to have been caused by portal hypertension. Hypothyroidism was detected, and the patient received supplementati...
