With the LIDAR data more wide use in DEM products, especially in urban area DEM modeling, the research on Grid DEM with LIDAR data is more and more urgent. Also users are more desired to acquaint themselves with LIDAR data, especially to know more about the accuracy of Grid DEM based on LIDAR data. Therefore, it is rather necessary to explore the matter of accuracy of DEM based on LIDAR data. I...

The airborne coherent Doppler lidar could provide the wind velocity relative to the motion of the lidar. The retrieval algorithms are complex corresponding to Ground-based lidar, due to the Doppler shift caused by mobile platform. This article gives a thorough analysis of the wind retrieval algorithms for the wind products of airborne Doppler lidar, include the correction for the lidar velocity...

There is a growing demand for high-accuracy elevation data collected by airborne or terrestrial mobile lidar systems in utility corridor surveys. Large-scale projects demand more stringent accuracy of lidar data under strongly variable survey conditions challenging lidar signal detection capability with extremely wide signal dynamic range. While accuracy specifications are provided by the lidar...

As part of a countywide large-scale mapping effort for Richland County, South Carolina, an accuracy assessment of a recently acquired lidar-derived data set was conducted. Airborne lidar (2-m nominal posting) was collected at a flying height of 1207 meters above ground level (AGL) using an Optech ALTM (Airborne Laser Terrain Mapper) 1210 system. Unique to this study are the reference point elev...

Airborne lidar is being considered as a tool for fish detection and for fisheries surveys. Detection has been demonstrated, and an imaging lidar has been developed to detect and identify fish for commercial fisheries. For survey work, a simpler radiometric lidar is being investigated, and preliminary results suggest that such a lidar can be very useful for biomass estimation.

Research activities combining lidar and radar remote sensing have increased in recent years. The main focus in combining lidar-radar forest remote sensing has been on the retrieval of the aboveground biomass (AGB), which is a primary variable related to carbon cycle in land ecosystems, and has therefore been identified as an essential climate variable. In this review, we summarize the studies c...

We comprehensively evaluated particle lidar ratios (i.e., particle extinction to backscatter ratio) at 532 nm over Wuhan in Central China by using a Raman lidar from July 2013 to May 2015. We utilized the Raman lidar data to obtain homogeneous aerosol lidar ratios near the surface through the Raman method during no-rain nights. The lidar ratios were approximately 57 ± 7 sr, 50 ± 5 sr, and 22 ± ...

Lidar offers a plethora of information on atmospheric aerosols and chemical constituents. However, lidar systems typically work in vacuums, applied to specific applications, such as validation efforts, and with little collaboration with other institutions. In order to alleviate these limitations, the Hampton University (HU) lidar has made steps to join the CREST Lidar Network (originally the RE...
