XMM-Newton observations of type I AGN are presented. The properties of the iron K emission line are reviewed, the majority of AGN observed by XMM-Newton show narrow, unresolved iron lines at 6.4 keV from cold matter that must originate far from the inner accretion disc, perhaps in the putative torus or outer broad line region. The strength of this narrow line appears to decrease with luminosity...

We present a fast and simple 1D simulation tool to predict solar cell performance as a function of the initial iron content and distribution in the as-grown silicon wafer, the time-temperature profiles applied during the fabrication process, and several parameters related to cell architecture. The applied model consists of three parts that are validated by comparison to experimental results fro...

Aims. We determine the nature of the intermediate polar candidates XSS J00564+4548, IGR J17195–4100, and XSS J12270–4859. Methods. Pointed RXTE observations searched for intermediate polar characteristics in these candidate systems. Results. XSS J00564+4548 exhibits a period of 465.68 ± 0.07 s, which we interpret as the spin period, an energy dependent modulation depth, and a spectrum that is f...

The removal of dissolved iron from the wafer bulk is important for the performance of ptype multicrystalline silicon solar cells. In this paper we review some recent progress in understanding both external and internal gettering of iron. Internal gettering at grain boundaries and dislocations occurs naturally during ingot cooling, and can also be driven further during cell processing, especiall...

We report on the metal distribution in the intracluster medium around the radio galaxy 4C+55.16 (z = 0.24) observed with the Chandra X-ray Observatory. The radial metallicity profile shows a dramatic change at 10 arcsec (∼ 50 kpc) in radius from half solar to twice solar at inner radii. Also found was a plume-like feature located at∼ 3 arcsec to the south-west of the centre of the galaxy, which...

OvoA is an iron(II) dependent sulfoxide synthase which catalyzes the first step in ovothiol A biosynthesis. This enzyme sulphurizes the C5 position of the imidazole side chain of L-histidine. We report the substrate specificity profile of this catalyst and present data which indicate that OvoA catalysis follows an thiol-ene type mechanism.

some studies, their use has limitations. For example, when ron deficiency anemia (IDA) is widely prevalent in patients of ll ages.1 In children and young adults, the diagnosis of IDA is ather straightforward. In elderly patients, however, the presnce of comorbidities usually hampers prompt diagnosis by onventional iron profile tests.2 When limited to conventional iron measures during evalations...

Forty-eight patients were subdivided according to C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, resulting in 19 patients with normal (2.8 ± 2.8 mg/L) and 29 with elevated (82.2 ± 76.2 mg/L) CRP levels. The elevated CRP group had iron and red blood cell (RBC) profiles characteristic of chronic immune stimulation (CIS), and the normal CRP group, profiles of true iron deficiency. Normal relationships between s...

New processes have been previously described for the continuous and discontinuous production of gluconic acid by Aureobasidium pullulans (de bary) Arnaud. Little is known about the regulatory mechanisms of gluconic acid production by A. pullulans. The response of growth and gluconic acid metabolism to a variable profile of iron concentrations was studied with A. pullulans in batch and chemostat...
