This artcile is concerned with thermal buckling and thermal induced free vibration analyses of PCPs (perforated composite plates) with simply supported edges applying a mathematical model. The stiffness and density of PCP are defined locally using Heaviside distribution functions. The governing equations are derived based on CLPT. The present solution gives reasonable results in comparison with...

Chain saws were first used in Kyusyu in 1956 for cutting down trees and sawing timber in the national forests. In 1961, some workers complained of symptoms due to the vibrations, but countermeasures were not taken until later. The working system and payment system in those times were different from the systems, today. The magnitudes of the chain saw vibrations were very large and the chain saws...

Introduction: Diffusion tensor imaging (DTI) offers the possibility of estimating quantities that are related to the brain’s white matter (WM) microstructure, e.g. the fractional anisotropy (FA) [1].These quantities are frequently used for group comparisons (e.g. [2]). For DTI, at least seven images must be acquired [3]: one image with no diffusion sensitization (b0 image), and six diffusion-we...

A new electromagnetic energy harvester for harnessing energy from flow induced vibration is developed. It converts flow energy into electrical energy by fluid flow and electromagnetic induction. A finite element model for estimation of the generated voltage of the energy harvester is developed. A prototype of the energy harvester is fabricated and tested. Experimental results show that an outpu...

A combined analytical-experimental approach is used. Analytical aspects focus on the continued development of a low-order model that utilizes a series of diffusively coupled circle map oscillators along the cylinder span. This coupled map lattice has been extended to include control logic to develop a very efficient low order model for control studies in cylinder wake flows. On the experimental...

OBJECTIVE To examine the effect of a new surgical intervention, consisting of cricopharyngeal myotomy and tracheal cartilaginous implantation on the anterior wall of the esophagus, for tracheoesophageal shunt and esophageal phonation. DESIGN We examined the vibration of the neoglottis of tracheoesophageal shunt and esophageal speakers after total laryngectomy using a high-speed video camera (...

When a finger moves to scan the surface of an object (haptic sensing), the sliding contact generates vibrations that propagate in the finger skin activating the receptors (mechanoreceptors) located in the skin, allowing the brain to identify objects and perceive information about their properties. The information about the surface of the object is transmitted through vibrations induced by frict...

This randomized cross-over study was designed to investigate the effects of a 4-min vibration bout on muscle performance and body balance in young, healthy subjects. Sixteen volunteers (eight men, eight women, age 24-33 years) underwent both the 4-min vibration- and sham-interventions in a randomized order on different days. Six performance tests (stability platform, grip strength, isometric ex...

Research regarding the risk of developing hand-arm vibration syndrome after exposure to impact vibration has produced conflicting results. This study used an established animal model of vibration-induced dysfunction to determine how exposure to impact vibration affects peripheral blood vessels and nerves. The tails of male rats were exposed to a single bout of impact vibration (15 min exposure,...

This study investigates and quantifies the electromagnetic effects of vibration noise in high-speed, permanent magnet motors. In particular, carrier harmonics generated excitation source by pulse width modulation method are derived based on dynamic simulations. Noise, vibration, harshness responses then analyzed compared to assess their induced motors during actual operations.
