Chiral nonracemic aminated nitroso acetals were synthesized via diastereoselective multicomponent [4 + 2]/[3 + 2] cycloadditions employing new (S,E)-γ-nitrogenated nitroalkenes 5a-c as heterodienes, ethyl vinyl ether (EVE) as a dienophile, and selected electron-deficient alkenes as 1,3-dipolarophiles. The employment of different organic solutions of LiClO4 or LiCl as promoter systems provided t...

kaolin-so3h as a new solid acid is prepared via reaction of kaolin and chlorosulfonic acid. this natural based catalyst is very inexpensive and easy available. imidazoles are an important class of heterocycles being the core fragment of different natural products and biological systems such as anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antifungal, antimycotic, antibiotic, antiulcerative, anti...

We investigated the effect of fifteen 1,5-disubstituted imidazoles (1,5-dis) on juvenile hormone III (JH III) and methyl farnesoate (MF) biosynthesis by the corpora allata (CA) of the mosquito Aedes aegypti in vitro. Four compounds (TH-35, TH-83, TH-62 and TH-28) significantly decreased JH biosynthesis in the CA dissected from 3-day old sugar-fed females. The decrease of JH synthesis was not al...

In the sperm whale myoglobin mutant H93G, the proximal histidine is replaced by glycine, leaving a cavity in which exogenous imidazole can bind and ligate the heme iron (Barrick, D. (1994) Biochemistry 33, 6545-6554). Structural studies of this mutant suggest that serine 92 may play an important role in imidazole binding by serving as a hydrogen bond acceptor. Serine 92 is highly conserved in m...

The fragment of the zebrafish prion-like protein (PrP-rel-2), encompassing residues 74-86 and unprotected at N-terminus (zf74-86) represents a good model to understand Cu(2+) and Zn(2+) binding to ligands containing multi-potential metal donor sites. Zf(74-86) contains four His and His-1 N-terminal amine groups which constitute both copper and zinc anchoring sites. The presence of His at the fi...

The multifunctional nature of proteins that have iron-heme cofactors with noncovalent histidine linkage to the protein is controlled by the heme environment. Previous studies of these active-site structures show that the primary difference is the length of the iron-proximal histidine bond, which can be controlled by the degree of H-bonding to this histidine. Great efforts to mimic these functio...

We show that a perylene bisimide (PBI)-based gelator forms self-sorted mixtures with a stilbene-based gelator. To form the self-sorted gels, we use a slow pH change induced by the hydrolysis of glucono-δ-lactone (GdL) to gluconic acid. We prove that self-sorting occurs using NMR spectroscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, rheology, and viscometry. The corresponding xerogels are photoconductive. Importan...
