We weigh the presumed benefits of routinely searching all research scans for incidental findings (IFs) against its substantial risks, including false-positive and false-negative findings, and the possibility of triggering unnecessary, costly evaluations and perhaps harmful treatments. We argue that routinely searching for IFs may not maximize benefits and minimize risks to participants.
Iterated Function Systems (IFS) raster compression techniques achieve their results by identifying self-similarities in the source image. However, not all source images contain exploitable self-similarity. We describe a compression technique that combines a Karhunen-Loeve basis set (for non self-similar aspects of an image) with a block based IFS.
DNA analysis is increasingly used to identify the remains of victims of conflicts and disasters. This is especially true in cases where remains are badly damaged and fragmented, or where antemortem records are unavailable. Incidental findings (IFs)-that is, genetics-related information for which investigators were not looking-may result from these identification efforts employing DNA analysis. ...
Intermediate filament (IF) proteins upregulation is a hallmark of astrocyte activation and reactive gliosis, but its pathophysiological implications remain incompletely understood. A recently reported association between IFs and directional mobility of peptidergic vesicles allows us to hypothesize that IFs affect vesicle dynamics and exocytosis-mediated astrocyte communication with neighboring ...
Eukaryotic cells contain three cytoskeletal filament systems that exhibit very distinct assembly properties, supramolecular architectures, dynamic behaviour and mechanical properties. Microtubules and microfilaments are relatively stiff polar structures whose assembly is modulated by the state of hydrolysis of the bound nucleotide. In contrast, intermediate filaments (IFs) are more flexible apo...
Moran’s Theorem is one of the milestones in Fractal Geometry. It allows the calculation of the similarity dimension of any (strict) self-similar set lying under the open set condition. Throughout a new fractal dimension we provide in the context of fractal structures, we generalize such a classical result for attractors which are required to satisfy no separation properties.
Valuations | morphisms from (; ; e) to ((0; 1); ; 1) | are a simple generalization of Bernoulli morphisms (distributions, measures) as introduced in 4,6]. Here, we show how to generalize the notion of entropy (of a language) in order to obtain new formulae to determine the Haus-dorr dimension of fractal sets (especially in Euclidean spaces) especially deened via regular !-languages. In this way...
Several methods have been proposed to estimate theHölder exponents of signals [1, 4]. In this paper, we propose a new approach, based on a generalization of iterated functions system (IFS), which is well adapted to irregular continuous 1D signals. We also use these generalized IFS to build parsimonious models of complex signals and to perform segmentation on them. This paper is organized as fol...
The enantioselective synthesis of chiral [7]-helical dispirodihydro[2,1-c]indenofluorenes (DSF-IFs) was achieved for the first time in good yields with high er values (er up to 99 : 1). crucial step whole reaction sequence intramolecular [2+2+2] cycloaddition tethered triynediols indenofluorenediols, which catalyzed by a Rh/SEGPHOS® complex. Further transformations led corresponding DSF-IFs. pr...
