The study included isolation and diagnosis of Escherichia coli from clinical animal sources (humans, cows, sheep, birds, chickens, fish, gecko). It collected 275 samples distributed to 125 taken urine 150 other organisms with 25 per organism. isolates used in the were diagnosed on appearance, microscopy, chemical tests, as well confirmatory testing isolations through use Api 20 E tape, where 41...

Jay, James M. (Wayne State University, Detroit, Mich.). Production of lysozyme by staphylococci and its correlation with three other extracellular substances. J. Bacteriol. 91:1804-1810. 1966.-Lysozyme production was determined on plates containing 1 mg/ml of Lysozyme Substrate in Heart Infusion Agar with incubation at 37 C for 48 hr. Its production was compared with that of alpha-hemolysin and...

Beta-hemolysin production is a variable trait of the Lancefield group D streptococcus, Enterococcus faecalis. The E. faecalis hemolysin is encoded by large transmissible plasmids. The variable nature of this putative virulence factor provided an ideal system for testing its contribution in experimental endophthalmitis. In this study, isogenic E. faecalis strains were compared to determine wheth...

The aim of this work is to study pore protein denaturation inside a lipid bilayer and to probe current asymmetry as a function of the channel conformation. We describe the urea denaturation of alpha-hemolysin channel and the channel formation of alpha-hemolysin monomer incubated with urea prior to insertion into a lipid bilayer. Analysis of single-channel recordings of current traces reveals a ...

Psychrotrophic Kanagawa-positive marine vibrios were isolated from soft-shelled clams (Mya arenaria) collected in Yaquina Bay, Oreg. The 235 vibrio isolates obtained were screened for Gram reaction and morphology, Kanagawa reaction on Wagastsuma agar, and response to selected biochemical tests. The vibrio selected for further study was grown in broth, and the hemolysin was precipitated from a c...

Staphylococcus aureus is a major human pathogen associated with high mortality. The emergence of antibiotic resistance and the inability of antibiotics to counteract bacterial cytotoxins involved in the pathogenesis of S. aureus call for novel therapeutic approaches, such as passive immunization with monoclonal antibodies (mAbs). The complexity of staphylococcal pathogenesis and past failures w...

Reference strains of serotypes 1 to 12 of Actinobacillus (Haemophilus) pleuropneumoniae were cultured in Eagle minimal essential medium with 10% Serum Plus. Culture supernatants were examined for cytotoxicity to alveolar macrophages and for the ability to hemolyze sheep erythrocytes. All strains except the reference strain of serotype 6 produced cytotoxin, whereas only serotypes 1, 5, 9, 10, an...

Aeromonas hydrophila strains isolated from the same geographical region (southern Italy) but from different sources (sea sediments and human diarrhea cases) were characterized for the production of potential virulence determinants, such as production of cytotoxins, cytotonic toxins, hemolysin, and dermonecrotic factors and their capacity to adhere to human intestinal 407 cells in vitro. The res...

Hemolysin was quantified in 58 isolates of Mycobacterium avium from human, animal, and environmental sources. Human Mav-A and Mav-B isolates were the strongest producers; in contrast, animal and environmental Mav-A isolates and human, animal, and environmental Mav-C organisms were low-level producers. Hemolysin production was not restricted to isolates causing invasive infections.

We report a de novo -assembled draft genome sequence of the Indian Staphylococcus aureus type 88 (ST88) strain LVP-7, isolated from an ocular infection. The harbors Panton-Valentine leukocidin phage, V staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec element, delta-hemolysin-converting Newman phage ΦNM3, and pathogenicity island SaPI3, encoding superantigen enterotoxin B.
