Renal hematuria has limited treatment options. This report describes management of bilateral idiopathic renal hematuria in a dog with surgically assisted installation of 0.5% silver nitrate solution. Initial treatment resulted in freedom from clinical signs or recurrent anemia for 10 months; however, recurrence of bleeding following a nephrectomy resulted in euthanasia.
Hematuria is a cardinal manifestation of renal disease and forms a cornerstone of nephrologic diagnosis. A systemic approach is required to delineate the source of hematuria to the kidney or urinary tract. We present the case of 14 years old boy who presented to us with history of passing red colour urine since 3 month not associated with pain who was subsequently diagnosed to have of Thin Base...
Macroscopic hematuria is a common symptom in IgA nephropathy and is also one of the most frequent complications after a percutaneous renal biopsy. Here, we describe a patient with IgA nephropathy and recurrent macroscopic hematuria who developed an arteriovenous fistula after renal biopsy.
Renal arteriovenous malformations are abnormal communications between the intrarenal arterial and venous systems. They are a rare cause of hematuria. Color Doppler ultrasonography, multislice CT angiography, and DSA are important tools for making the diagnosis. We describe the case of a 62-year-old man with renal arteriovenous malformation who presented with gross hematuria.
Gross hematuria secondary to vesical varices is an unusual presentation. We report such a case recurrent gross hematuria in a male patient who had a history of bladder substitution with ileal segments that had been treated by balloon-occluded percutaneous transhepatic obliteration of vesical varices.
A 6.5 yr old girl was admitted with a category of clinical signs and symptoms including recurrent gross hematuria, abdominal pain, and fever. After different examinations including genetic analysis, the disease was diagnosed as Familial Mediterranean fever (FMF). It is suggested to consider FMF as a rare cause of recurrent gross hematuria, which is responsive to colchicine treatment.
Glanzmann thrombasthenia is a qualitative platelet function disorder manifested by skin bleeds, epistaxis, gingival bleeding, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, hematuria, hemarthrosis, intracranial hemorrhage and visceral hematomas. We report a six day old newborn presenting with hematuria following suprapubic aspiration, who was diagnosed as Glanzmann thrombasthenia. We believe it to be the younges...
Benign recurrent hematuria usually indicates a good prognosis. This condition is associated with abnormally thin glomerular basement membranes. Of 680 renal biopsy cases in which lower urinary tract disease had been excluded by careful study, 25 cases from seven children and eighteen adults met the criteria for thin glomerular basement membrane disease, placing the incidence of the disease at 3...
BACKGROUND/AIM . Multislice computed tomography (MSCT) has triggered considerable changes in uroradiological imaging. The aim of this study was to establish the place of MSCT urography (MSCTU) in comparison with intravenous urography (IVU) and to determine the sensitivity and specificity of MSCT in the evaluation of urothelial abnormalities. METHODS This prospective study included 120 patient...
