A new type of composite structure with a metal foam is reinforced by the metal corrugated core, called metal-foam-filled sandwich panel with a corrugated or V-frame core, is modelled, simulated, and studied in this article. All types of samples with different relative densities of the foam are tested and analyzed under the drop hammer load. The sandwich panel included two aluminium face-sheet, ...
Tracheostomy tubes are used to administer positive-pressure ventilation, to provide a patent airway, to provide protection from aspiration, and to provide access to the lower respiratory tract for airway clearance. They are available in a variety of sizes and styles, from several manufacturers. The dimensions of tracheostomy tubes are given by their inner diameter, outer diameter, length, and c...
Inertial confinement fusion (ICF) implosions involve highly coupled physics and complex hydrodynamics that are challenging to model computationally. Due the sensitivity of such small features, detailed simulations require accurate accounting geometry dimensionality initial conditions, including capsule defects engineering features as fill tubes used insert gas into capsule, yet this is computat...
An approximate model of a spacetime foam is presented. It is supposed that in the spacetime foam each quantum handle is like to an electric dipole and therefore the spacetime foam is similar to a dielectric. If we neglect of linear sizes of the quantum handle then it can be described with an operator containing a Grassman number and either a scalar or a spinor field. For both fields the Lagrang...
The engineers who built the massive external fuel tank that will power the shuttle Discovery into orbit used sophisticated X-ray detectors developed by UF researchers to reduce the chance of a defect in the foam insulation covering the tank. The detectors, first invented as a new technology to find land mines, can identify tiny gaps, or air-filled voids, in the insulating foam without causing a...
Quasi-static and dynamic compression response of a lightweight interpenetrating phase composite foam
Quasi-static and dynamic compression response of syntactic foam (SF)–aluminum foam interpenetrating phase composites (IPC) is examined. Infusion of uncured syntactic foam (epoxy filled with hollow microballoons) into an open-cell aluminum network results in a 3D interpenetrating structure upon curing. The compression responses are measured at strain rates of ∼0.001/s and 1500/s. The dynamic exp...
Insufficient bearing capacity of compression bars in space grid structures can significantly reduce the collapse resistance and cause immeasurable losses. Reactive powder concrete (RPC) with high strength, micro-expansion, good ductility is used to reinforce members by infilling steel tubes. Axial tests on five types high-frequency welded pipes different section sizes initial stresses were carr...
The cardiovascular system of bilaterians developed from a common ancestor. However, no endothelial cells exist in invertebrates demonstrating that primitive cardiovascular tubes do not require this vertebrate-specific cell type in order to form. This raises the question of how cardiovascular tubes form in invertebrates? Here we discovered that in the invertebrate cephalochordate amphioxus, the ...
We present a lattice model of water confined in a hydrophobic nanotube. Using analytical methods and computer simulation, we find conditions where filled and empty tubes can be degenerate in equilibrium. We further find that flow of water molecules through a filled tube with appropriate but simple stochastic rules can be interpreted as water conduction in a pulse-like fashion. These two results...
