Fluorescent proteins have been widely used in biology because of their compatibility and varied applications in living specimens. Fluorescent proteins are often undesirably sensitive to intracellular conditions such as pH and ion concentration, generating considerable issues at times. However, harnessing these intrinsic sensitivities can help develop functional probes. In this study, we found t...

Herein, we have developed a novel reversible two-photon fluorescent probe that is well suited for monitoring HOCl levels selectively and instantaneously. Results showed the reversible and instantaneous responses of the probe towards intracellular HOCl. Moreover, the probe was successfully applied to the imaging of the HOCl levels in zebrafish and mice via two-photon imaging.

Cell death is a fundamental biological process that is present in numerous disease pathologies. Fluorescent probes that detect cell death have been developed for a myriad of research applications ranging from microscopy to in vivo imaging. Here we describe a synthetic near-infrared (NIR) conjugate of zinc(II)-dipicolylamine (Zn²+-DPA) for in vivo imaging of cell death. Chemically induced in viv...

Phosphatidylinositol 4,5-bisphosphate (PtdIns[4,5]P 2 ) pools that bind pleckstrin homology (PH) domains were visualized by cellular expression of a phospholipase C (PLC) d PH domain–green fluorescent protein fusion construct and analysis of confocal images in living cells. Plasma membrane localization of the fluorescent probe required the presence of three basic residues within the PLC d PH do...

A novel red emitting fluorescent probe exhibiting a 143 nm Stokes shift for the detection of fluoride ions in an aqueous solution was developed. The probe displays a rapid response, high selectivity and good sensitivity towards F(-). Application of the probe for the selective detection of intracellular F(-) has been successfully demonstrated in living cells.

A cascade reaction-based colorimetric and fluorescent probe for selective fluoride ion detection is reported. The probe displays a fast response (t1/2 = 2.41 min) and 550-fold fluorescence enhancement during sensing of fluoride ions. Application of the probe in live cell imaging is demonstrated.

Here, we report the study of a new multichannel DNA fluorescent base analogue 3-hydroxychromone (3HC) to evaluate its suitability as a fluorescent reporter probe of structural transitions during protein-DNA interactions and its comparison with the current commercially available 2-aminopurine (aPu), pyrrolocytosine (Cpy) and 1,3-diaza-2-oxophenoxazine (tCO). For this purpose, fluorescent base an...

In this communication, we report a simple albumin probe based on a fluorescent molecular rotor for the detection of trace albumin levels in urine. In the presence of albumin, the probe exhibits remarkable 400-fold fluorescence enhancement with high selectivity and sensitivity. The probe was successfully applied in the quantitative detection of urinary albumin.

Long α(1-4)-linked glucopyranose branches in the starch polysaccharide amylopectin can be detected by the specific binding of an anionic amphiphilic fluorescent probe. The probe forms spermidine-stabilised micelles in water resulting in fluorescence quenching. By extracting the probe from the micelles polysaccharides are detected in a "turn-on" fluorescence assay.

A new fluorescent probe installed with dual-reactive and dual-quenching groups was rationally designed for highly selective and sensitive sensing of biothiols. The sensitivity of the probe toward thiols was significantly improved by dual-quenching effects. Furthermore the selectivity of the probe was also greatly enhanced by installation of dual-reactive groups.
