The cochlea plays a crucial role in mammal hearing. The basic function of the cochlea is to map sounds of different frequencies onto corresponding characteristic positions on the basilar membrane (BM). Sounds enter the fluid-filled cochlea and cause deflection of the BM due to pressure differences between the cochlear fluid chambers. These deflections travel along the cochlea, increasing in amp...

Thermal fluctuations in fluids and fluid mixtures in stationary nonequilibrium states are spatially long ranged. This long-ranged nature of the non-equilibrium fluctuations is caused by a coupling between hydrodynamic modes through the non-equilibrium fluxes or gradients. The phenomena are discussed with some illustrative examples in fluids and fluid mixtures.

This paper discusses techniques for simulation based optimisation of marine current turbines, and the relative benefits and disadvantages of such methods. Blade Element Momentum codes, Computational Fluid Dynamics and Finite Element analyses, and subsequently the coupling of such techniques, are considered. The relevancy of design, search and optimisation with respect to complex fluid and struc...

In this work, we present a conservative method for three-dimensional inviscid fluid-structure interaction problems for the simulation of the impact of shock waves on solid structures. On the fluid side, we consider an inviscid Euler fluid in conservative form in order to assess the conservation issues related to coupling. The Finite Volume method uses the OSMP high-order flux with a Strang oper...

In this article, we investigate the kinetic/fluid coupling on a toy model. We obtain it rigorously from a hydrodynamical limit. The idea is that at the level of the full kinetic model, the coupling is obvious. We then investigate the coupling obtained when passing into the limit. We show that, especially in presence of a shock stuck on the interface, the coupling involves a kinetic layer known ...

The development of automatized hyphenated systems is attractive to avoid sampling error, save time and reduce costs. Among these systems, on-line SFE-SFC allows the extraction, separation, detection molecules in an efficient, quick eco-friendly way. After a historical introduction explanation on use supercritical fluids for extraction or analysis, principles fluid (SFE) chromatography (SFC) wil...

the methods which are used to analyze microstrip antennas, are divited into three categories: empirical methods, semi-empirical methods and full-wave analysis. empirical and semi-empirical methods are generally based on some fundamental simplifying assumptions about quality of surface current distribution and substrate thickness. thses simplificatioms cause low accuracy in field evaluation. ful...
