Carrier flotation is a common technique used to improve flotation recovery of ultrafine ores. In this study, we used coarse polystyrene as the carrier material to enhance flotation recovery of fine smithsonite (ZnCO3) particles. Sodium oleate was used as the collector and played a role in the adhesion of fine smithsonite to polystyrene due to its amphipathic properties. The carrier feature of p...

Instead of solving fine-tuning problems by some automatic method or by cancelling the quadratic divergencies in the hierarchy problem by a symmetry (such as SUSY), we rather propose to look for a unification of the different fine-tuning problems. Our unified fine-tuning postulate is the so-called Multiple Point Principle, according to which there exist many vacuum states with approximately the ...

We present a substantial upgrade of our previously developed multi-filter rotating shadowband (MFRSR) data analysis algorithm (Alexandrov et al. 2002). For the new version an automated cloud screening procedure (Alexandrov et al. 2004) has been designed and a bimodal aerosol particle size distribution model is used defined by a variable fine mode size and a ratio between the fine and coarse modes.

The fine-mesh phototube is one type of photodetector which can be used under a strong magnetic field. For an aerogel readout, the single-photon detection efficiency should be close to 100% in order to identify particle species. We carried out a feasibility study of single-photon counting using fine-mesh phototubes, and obtained a possible solution.

When normal volunteers ate isocaloric wheat-based meals, their plasma insulin responses (peak concentration and area under curve) increased stepwise: whole grains < cracked grains < coarse flour < fine flour. Insulin responses were also greater with fine maizemeal than with whole or cracked maize grains but were similar with whole groats, rolled oats, and fine oatmeal. The peak-to-nadir swing o...

Fine particle sulfate was measured continuously for 90 consecutive days, from August through October 1999, at Big Bend National Park. Measurements were made with a prototype integrated collection and vaporization cell, whereby particles are humidified and collected by impaction onto a metal strip and analyzed in place by flash-vaporization and pulsed fluorescence detection of the evolved sulfur...

Vertical aerosol profiles were directly measured over the city of Milan during three years (2005–2008) of field campaigns. An optical particle counter, a portable meteorological station and a miniaturized cascade impactor were deployed on a tethered balloon. More than 300 vertical profiles were measured, both in winter and summer, mainly in conditions of clear, dry skies. The mixing height was ...

A facile co-precipitation method for the synthesis of well-dispersed NdFeO3 nanocrystals is developed in the presence of octanoic acid as surfactant. Co-precipitation can produce fine, high-purity, stoichiometric particles of single and multicomponent metal oxides. The product is characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microsc...

Preparation of micron and nano sized ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles in propellant formulation is required for access high burning rate propellants. The decomposition and burning rate of AP particles are mainly affected by decreasing the particle size, which can decrease the decomposition temperature, and increase burning rate.  AP particles at the micro and nano-scales, have a great influe...

The objective of the present study was to entrap isoniazid, an Antitubercular drug, in cross linked chitosan matrix and study in vitro lung deposition of powdered chitosan microspheres using Andersen cascade impactor. Ionic cross linker Tripolyphospate was used to make cross linked chitosan microspheres to achieve sustained drug release. Chitosan microspheres were prepared by spray drying metho...
