Aims—To investigate the eVects of artefacts on scanning laser polarimetry of the retinal nerve fibre layer. Methods—Six eyes of six normal volunteers and an artificial nerve fibre layer were examined using the nerve fibre analyser II. The retinal nerve fibre layer thickness (RNFLT) was measured in each of four 90 degree quadrants, superior (S), temporal (T), inferior (I), and nasal (N), at 1.5 ...

AIMS To investigate the variation in the retinal nerve fibre layer thickness in detail in normal eyes with a scanning laser polarimeter. METHODS The retinal nerve fibre layer thickness (RNFLT) was measured in 94 normal volunteers with a scanning laser polarimeter. The mean RNFLT around a 10 pixel-wide ellipse located concentrically with the disc of 1.5 disc diameters was calculated for 16 sec...

Abstract Current research focuses on optimizing various quality characteristics for kerf geometry generated through laser cutting of Coir fibre/carbon fibre/epoxy resin hybrid composite adjacent to straight cut profile employing pulsed CO 2 system. The Kerf taper (KT) and the Surface roughness (SR) are main parameters discussed. Dependent significant process parameters, namely gas pressure, spe...

operated stably after more than 500h. In conclusion, we obtained a nearly round FFP in the 650nm band wavelength using the S3-laser. The laser had good I-L characteristics and good reliability at lOmW and 60°C. We consider that the laser could be of use as a light source in optical disk systems. and TERAMOTO, I.: 'Novel technology for formation of a narrow active layer in buried heterostructure...

A promising route to manufacturing portable (sub-)picosecond fibre lasers is to use a semiconductor saturable absorber mirror (SESAM). With SESAMs, the mode-locked regime can be achieved for different values of cavity dispersion for a broad spectrum ranging from 0.8 to 1.6μm. The fibre lasers, characterized by a high efficiency and reliability and a small footprint, are very attractive for appl...

The optical fibre laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV) is a technique used for the velocity measurement of fluid flows. The two-dimensional directional LDV using a special technique based on generation of heterodyne signals of differential carrier frequencies has been described in literature [1,2]. The capability of simultaneous measurement of three orthogonal velocity components has also been prese...

AIM Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic inflammatory disease, commonly characterized by painful, deep dermal abscesses and chronic draining sinus tracts. Recently, laser and light-based therapies have become more commonly used in the management of HS. MATERIAL AND METHODS We report 20 HS patients treated with a 1064 nm wavelength, emitted from a diode laser, launched in an optical fibr...

A highly polarized Ho-doped truly all-fibre laser was demonstrated without in-cavity polarizer. Utilizing PM-FBG and loop mirror, maximum 0.5W output power with 30% slope efficiency, 70dB ASE suppression and 99.997% degree of polarization was recorded at 2.1μm

An intensity-based technique for the interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors is described. The technique utilizes two longitudinal modes of a single, pulsed laser diode as a dual-wavelength source for grating illumination. Time-division-multiplexed addressing of sensor arrays in serial and tree topologies is also demonstrated.

Demonstrations of CW and pulsed microchip lasing in Cr2þ:ZnS and Cr2þ:ZnSe crystals are reported. Slope efficiencies up to 53% with output power up to 150 mW for CW and energy up to 1 mJ for pulsed pumping were achieved. Two compact diode and Er fibre laser directly pumped external cavity Cr2þ: ZnS lasers are also described.
