OBJECTIVE Clue cells characteristic of bacterial vaginosis (BV) are thought to arise due to exfoliation of the vaginal epithelium; however, there is little published data connecting total numbers of epithelial cells to markers of BV. The purpose of this study was to enumerate exfoliated epithelial cells (independent of clue cells) and examine the relationship to Nugent score. STUDY DESIGN We ...
MoS2 Nanosheet–Pd Nanoparticle Composite for Highly Sensitive Room Temperature Detection of Hydrogen
Highly sensitive hydrogen detection at room temperature can be realized by employing solution-processed MoS2 nanosheet-Pd nanoparticle composite. A MoS2-Pd composite exhibits greater sensing performance than its graphene counterpart, indicating that solvent exfoliated MoS2 holds great promise for inexpensive and scalable fabrication of highly sensitive chemical sensors.
We study a model initially proposed to describe a mixture of (CO) 1−x (N 2) x adsorbed on exfoliated graphite. The approach used here is that of mean field theory. The Mean Field equations and the Helmholtz Free Energy are found. Phase diagrams are calculated too, and it is possible to find an analytic expression for the second order phase transition line.
Noble metal nanoparticles are directly and homogeneously grown onto graphene-oxide (GO) sheets in oleylamine. After the oleylamine is removed, the GO sheets are exfoliated by the nanoparticle pillars to further form hierarchical GO nanostructures with molecule accessible nanopores. With specific sensing-groups modified, the porous-layered nanostructure can be constructed onto resonant microcant...
Polyamide 6 intercalated/exfoliated (PIE) cements are fabricated and characterized. With the reinforcing nanointerphase, the flexure strength of a PIE cement is higher than that of ordinary cements by an order of magnitude. The optimum nanointerphase content is around 10 wt.%. This technique has great potential in developing advanced precast and repair technologies. © 2005 Elsevier B.V. All rig...
On the basis of the Diels-Alder reaction of graphite and tetracyanoethylene, graphite has been mechanically exfoliated into graphene adducts in a yield up to 38%. The graphene adduct can restore its conjugated structure via retro-Diels-Alder reaction under mild conditions, exhibiting a high conductivity of 1035 S m(-1).
According to PCR, the prevalences of human papillomavirus (HPV) DNA were 6.3% (13 of 206) in tonsillitis or hypertrophic tonsillar tissues and 0.6% (1 of 174) in exfoliated cells from normal tonsils. HPV-16 was the only type detected in tonsillar tissues, but it did not appear to lead to L1 antibody production.
A novel controlled molecular release based on highly oriented nanoplates of layered double hydroxide was fabricated on indium tin oxide substrates by electrophoretic deposition of exfoliated LDH nanosheets. The LDH particle coating exhibited a superior release performance of the order of hours.
The swelling and exfoliation behavior of protonated layered oxides using an organo-phosphonium base, tetrabutylphosphonium hydroxide (TBPOH), was examined for the first time. The action of the aqueous solution induced massive interlayer expansion up to ~100-fold. The swollen crystals were immediately broken and completely exfoliated into unilamellar nanosheets in 1-2 h by shaking.
BACKGROUND Human papillomavirus (HPV) has been associated with the development of head and neck cancers. In this study, we investigated whether the risk factors for head and neck cancer in relation to HPV infection are different from those in the absence of HPV infection and whether HPV detected in oral exfoliated cells is an independent predictor of head and neck cancer risk. METHODS We cond...
