Many younger and highly active patients desire to achieve high flexion after total knee arthroplasty. This study's purpose was to determine if a contemporary total knee arthroplasty design improved functional knee flexion compared with a traditional total knee arthroplasty in patients living a Western lifestyle. Ten patients with bilateral total knee arthroplasty of 2 types were studied during ...

Ten subjects with unilateral posterior cruciate ligament-deficient knees were studied, comparing the knee mechanics of the affected knee with the mechanics of the opposite normal knee. The static squat test was used to determine knee forces and moments through measurements made on roentgenograms. Statistically significant increases occurred in posterior translation of the tibia in all knees at ...

INTRODUCTION Osteoarthritis (OA) can lead to pain, disability, and loss of range of motion in the knee. The pre-operative condition of the knee has been shown to influence the functional outcome of treatments for OA [1]. A greater understanding of how motion of the knee is affected by OA may facilitate the assessment of the efficacy of potential treatments. We used a computer-assisted navigatio...

CONTEXT A smaller amount of ankle-dorsiflexion displacement during landing is associated with less knee-flexion displacement and greater ground reaction forces, and greater ground reaction forces are associated with greater knee-valgus displacement. Additionally, restricted dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) is associated with greater knee-valgus displacement during landing and squatting tasks....

Objectives: To assess the relationship between dynamic knee motion in female athletes during landing after jumping and lower limb clinical physical measurements, considered risk factors for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. We proposed that (1) knee valgus and flexion angles during landing are correlated with clinical physical measurements; (2) combining these measurements enables predic...

We report a case of a girl with complete sacral agenesis associated with arthrogrypotic-like deformity. This case demonstrates that a posterior knee release and braces following operation are effective treatment for knee-flexion contractures. Accordingly it is suggested that a supracondylar osteotomy is not required for mild or moderate recurrence of knee-flexion contractures.

Abstract Background Patellofemoral complications are one of the major issues after total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Excessive patellofemoral joint pressure is associated with TKA surgery, and amount patellar osteotomy has a direct effect on pressure. The purpose this study was to evaluate influence patella thickness in TKA. Methods Five freshly frozen cadavers were operated custom-made Stryker po...

The aim of this investigation was to study the effect of non-involved-side exercise on the involved (paretic) leg-muscle of patients with stroke. Each of the ten adults studied attempted to perform, while seated, a predetermined sequence of the following actions : (1) a voluntary knee extension on the involved side; (2) a maximal, isometric knee-flexion on the non-involved side; (3) a maximal, ...

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effect of exercise on knee joint laxity. If exercise induced laxity is physiological, incorporation of this quality into a ligament replacement material would be indicated. Twenty recreational long distance runners average age 41 (range 24 to 50 yr) were tested before and immediately after 30 minutes of running. Using a computerized goniometer t...

Since distal femoral varus osteotomy (DFO) -specific plates had not been available in Japan before 2015, we performed DFO using a plate for tibia. The purpose of this study was to elucidate the efficacy and problems associated with the non-specific plate in DFO. We used NCB-PT plates (Zimmer Inc.) in the upside-down position and the minimum 5-year outcomes were evaluated. The mean preoperative ...
