The NucliSENS easyMAG automated system was compared to the column-based Qiagen method for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) or cytomegalovirus (CMV) DNA extraction from whole blood before viral load determination using the corresponding R-gene amplification kits. Both extraction techniques exhibited a total agreement of 81.3% for EBV and 87.2% for CMV.

Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) has been implicated in the etiology of a large number of malignancies. Most recently several studies have linked EBV to Hodgkin's disease. In this report, formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissues were collected retrospectively from 41 children with Hodgkin's disease treated at our hospital. Lymph node biopsies were examined for the presence of two virus-encoded latent ...

6. Explain the epidemiology of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infections and identify the clinical features associated with EBV infection in immunocompetent and immunocompromised children of various ages. AUTHOR DISCLOSURE Drs Pinninti, HoughTelford, Pati, and Boppana have disclosed no financial relationships relevant to this article. In children with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection biochemical evidence of liver involvement is frequent. However cholestasis and pancreatitis are rare. We report a child where this association, usually suggestive of biliary tract obstruction, was instead secondary to EBV infection without the typical clinical and hematological features of infectious mononucleosis (IM).

Nuclei from superinfected Raji cells synthesized Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) DNA in vitro in the absence of cell DNA synthesis. The synthesis of EBV DNA in vitro was inhibited by phosphonoacetic acid and N-ethylmaleimide, and maximum synthesis was achieved in the absence of an ATP-regenerating system. Nuclei from mock-infected cells required an ATP-regenerating system for maximum DNA synthesis.

A Burkitt lymphoblastoid cell line, P3J-HR-1, was fused and hybridized to a human sternal marrow cell line. The somatic cell hybrids were negative when examined for Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) markers. When the hybrid cells were exposed to 5-iododeoxyuridine, both EBV-specific antigens and virus particles were induced as determined by the immunofluorescence test and by electron microscopy. The dat...

BACKGROUND Hepatitis B virus (HBV) has been reported as a coinfection with hepatitis C virus (HCV), hepatitis D virus (HDV), cytomegalovirus (CMV), and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). CASE REPORT A 34-year-old female presented to our clinic with epigastric pain and severe acute hepatitis manifested as jaundice associated with hyperbilirubinemia, elevated transaminases, and coagulopathy. The...

background: oral lichen planus (olp) is a chronic immunologic disease. the etiology of olp is unknown, viral antigens (for example epstein-bar virus) have been proposed as etiologic agents. olp may get transformation to malignancy so re search on the presence of ebv in olp lesions seems to be necessary. the aim of this study was to ascertain if ebv acted as etiologic factor in pathogenesis of o...

Background Significantly higher pharyngeal shedding of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) is observed during HIV infection. Increased EBV shedding in pharynx is not affected even during highly active antiretroviral theyrapy (HAART). EBV positive monocyte populations have been shown to carry EBV to pharyngeal mucosa. Human cytokine profiles are often altered to facilitate herpes virus infection. Thus phar...
