Serum specimens from patients on primidone therapy were assayed by two currently available procedures: a commercially available enzyme immunoassay (EMIT) and a published gas-chromatographic procedure. Both procedures were done with commercially available materials and equipment. Results by the two procedures agreed well, which suggests that the two methods could be used interchangeably. For the...

I evaluated homogeneous enzyme immunoassay (EMIT) of serum thyroxine with the Gilford 3500 analyzer. The samples are pretreated before quantitation on the Gilford 3500; the procedure thereafter is entirely mechanized. Forty-four samples may be analyzed per run. Precision and accuracy are good, and results correlate well with those by radioimmunoassay.

We evaluated three commonly used clinical methods for measuring serum methotrexate: enzyme immunoassay (EMIT), radioassay, and radioimmunoassay. Because potentially interfering compounds can be resolved by liquid chromatography, this method was selected as the comparison method. Patients' serum samples, taken during 24 h after 6-h high-dose infusions, contained methotrexate in concentrations ra...

Enzyme immunoassays were developed for the detection of Breda virus antibody and antigen. Cattle sera collected in the United Kingdom were found to have a high prevalence of antibody (55%) to Breda virus when examined in a competitive enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. A low prevalence of antibody was found in pigs (2.2%), and no antibody was found in sheep or goat sera. No antibody to either B...

In the usual sequential addition enzyme immunoassays for drugs, the activity of the drug-labeled enzyme decreases continuously with time as more of it is bound to antibody. Sensitivity also decreases; the activity immediately after mixing is the most sensitive indicator of drug concentration. The reaction of enzyme-drug with antibody can be stopped by saturating the antibody with a larger quant...

Background: The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) is considered one of the most serious health challenges worldwide. Early detection and diagnosis are key elements in the effort to control HIV. Rapid tests for the detection of HIV-antibody allow timely point-of-care provision of results and do not require the laboratory facilities needed for conventional enzyme immunoassays (enzyme-linked immu...

We used an enzyme immunoassay to determine the normal reference intervals for thyroxin, triiodothyronine, and thyrotropin in groups of children, ranging from newborns to 15-year-olds. Results compared well with those by radioimmunoassay. There were no substantial differences between plasma and serum samples for thyroxin and triiodothyronine, but thyrotropin concentrations differed significantly...
