Graph class C is induced-hereditary if for every graph G in C, every induced subgraph of G belongs to C. Induced-hereditary graph classes allow characterisation by sets of forbidden induced subgraphs. Such characterisations are very useful for automatic deduction of relations between graph classes. However, sometimes those sets of forbidden induced subgraphs are infinite, what makes it difficul...

Silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) show different physical and chemical properties compared to their macroscale analogs. This is primarily due to their small size and, consequently, the exceptional surface area of these materials. Presently, advances in the synthesis, stabilization, and production of AgNPs have fostered a new generation of commercial products and intensified scientific investigation ...

Daligault, Rao and Thomassé asked whether a hereditary class of graphs well-quasi-ordered by the induced subgraph relation has bounded clique-width. Lozin, Razgon and Zamaraev recently showed that this is not true for classes defined by infinitely many forbidden induced subgraphs. However, in the case of finitely many forbidden induced subgraphs the question remains open and we conjecture that ...

In this article, we present a characterization of basic graphs in terms of forbidden induced subgraphs. This class of graphs was introduced by Conforti, Cornuéjols and Vušković [3], and it plays an essential role in the announced proof of the Strong Perfect Graph Conjecture by Chudnovsky, Robertson, Seymour and Thomas [2]. Then we apply the Reducing Pseudopath Method [13] to characterize the su...

Here we report the characterization of the type-1 isopentenyl diphosphate isomerase derived from Halobacterium sp. NRC-1. The expressed purified enzyme showed maximum isomerase activity in the presence of 1 M NaCl at 37 degrees C at pH 6.0. This type-1 enzyme appears to be the first for which the Co2+ ion is required for activity.

This paper reports the isolation and characterization of a new o-nitrobenzaldehyde (ONBA)-degrading bacterium, Alcaligenes sp. ND1. ND1 degraded almost all ONBA (100 mg L(-1)) in M9 medium within 36 hours. The key enzyme(s) involved in the initial biodegradation was a constitutively intracellular enzyme(s). This bacterium has great potential utility for bioremediation.

The purification and characterization of a new restriction endonuclease, Dde 1, from a sulfate-reducing, anaerobic bacterium, Desulfovibrio desulfuricans, Norway, is reported. The enzyme recognizes the sequence (see formula index) and cleaves at the position indicated by the arrows. The enzyme preparation obtained is suitable for restriction mapping an ligation.

In this article, we provide evidence for the presence of diglyceride kinase activity in cell extracts of Rhizobium meliloti 1021. Characterization of the rhizobial enzyme revealed that it shares many properties with the diglyceride kinase of Escherichia coli. A possible role for this enzyme during cyclic beta-1,2-glucan biosynthesis is discussed.

The recent structural characterization of the NrfA from Escherichia coli provides a framework to rationalize the spectroscopic and functional properties of this enzyme. Analyses by EPR and magnetic CD spectroscopies have been complemented by protein-film voltammetry and these are discussed in relation to the essential structural features of the enzyme.

Background. The anaerobic gut fungi (phylum Neocallimastigomycota) represent a promising source of novel lignocellulolytic enzymes. Here, we report on the cloning, expression, and characterization of a glycoside hydrolase family 39 (GH39) enzyme (Bgxg1) that is highly transcribed by the anaerobic fungus Orpinomycessp. strain C1A under different growth conditions. This represents the first study...
