A mesoporous PtCu catalyst modified with a Ru submonolayer is successfully synthesized by a facile electrochemical process of electrodeposition, dealloying and Ru underpotential deposition. The material has a large specific surface area comparable to nanoparticles (11 m(2) g(-1)) and exhibits a promising catalyst activity for the methanol oxidation reaction.

Arrays of multi-segmented hybrid nanostructures of carbon nanotube and gold nanowires have been synthesized using a combination of chemical vapour deposition and electrodeposition methods and we further demonstrate that ultra-high power electrochemical double layer capacitors can be engineered using these hybrid nanowires, resulting in very high power densities.
Patterned micro/nano structural hydrophobic Ni-P films were designed by the combination of electrochemical and chemical deposition. The formation mechanism is illustrated by the gradually changed morphology of the film. This work shows a new method for fabricating a patterned surface morphology with tailored hydrophobicity.
