We carried out a survival analysis of elbow synovectomy (ES) and excision of the radial head (RHE) performed on 171 rheumatoid elbows. The failure criteria were revision surgery (performed or desired) and/or the presence of significant or severe pain. The cumulative survival was 81% at one year which thereafter decreased by an average of 2.6% per year. The strongest predictor for success was a ...

INTRODUCTION Unreduced elbow dislocation is every elbow dislocation older than one week. It may be treated non-operatively (with prereduction traction) or surgically. The treatment goals are: to reduce pain, to establish joint stability and movements. There are a lot of techniques described in literature, series are relatively small, mostly case reports. Multicentric studies have not been done....

We report the results of a series of 59 unconstrained total arthroplasties of the elbow after a mean follow-up of 6.5 years (4 to 10). All the patients had rheumatoid arthritis. The indication for surgery was pain in all but one. Outcome was assessed by the Mayo Elbow Performance Index (MEPI). Of the 59 arthroplasties, two were lost to follow-up. Ten patients died, but as two of their arthropla...

BACKGROUND Comminuted radial head fractures are often associated with secondary injuries and elbow instability. OBJECTIVES The aim of this retrospective study was to evaluate how well the modular metallic radial head implant EVOLVE® prosthesis restores functional range of motion (ROM) and stability of the elbow in acute care. PATIENTS AND METHODS Eighty-five patients with comminuted radial ...

BACKGROUND Ulnar neuropathy is the second most common peripheral nerve neuropathy after median neuropathy, with an incidence of 25 cases per 100 000 men and 19 cases per 100 000 women each year. Skipping (snapping) elbow syndrome is an uncommon cause of pain in the posterior-medial elbow area, sometimes complicated by injury of the ulnar nerve. One of the reason is the dislocation of the abnorm...

BACKGROUND Previous studies have indicated that the demands placed on the medial ulnar collateral ligament of the elbow when it is subjected to valgus torque during throwing exceed its failure strength, which suggests the necessary dynamic contribution of muscle forces. We hypothesized that the flexor-pronator mass assists the medial ulnar collateral ligament in stabilizing the elbow against va...

Background: Open Bankart surgery is the main treatment procedure in patients with recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation, especially in cases with glenoid bone defect. The goal of this study was to determine the outcomes after open Bankart surgery in cases of recurrent anterior shoulder dislocation with glenoid bone defects and concomitant Hill-Sachs lesions. Methods: Between 2006 and 2010,...
