Cloud computing represents a paradigm shift driven by the increasing demand of Web based applications for elastic, scalable and efficient system architectures that can efficiently support their ever-growing data volume and large-scale data analysis. A typical data management system has to deal with real-time updates by individual users, and as well as periodical large scale analytical processin...

The ground reaction curve (GRC) is a vital component of the convergence-confinement method, which possesses many applications in the underground space designs. It defines a relation between the tunnel wall deformations and the ground pressure acting on the tunnel walls. Generally, GRC includes descending and ascending branches. According to many researchers, the descending branch trend for the ...

In this paper, the numerical technique based on hybrid Bernoulli and Block-Pulse functions has been developed to approximate the solution of system of linear Volterra integral equations. System of Volterra integral equations arose in many physical problems such as elastodynamic, quasi-static visco-elasticity and magneto-electro-elastic dynamic problems. These functions are formed by the hybridi...

the present study is the first to analyze the dynamic response of a poroelastic beam subjected to a moving force. moreover, the influences of attached mass-spring systems and non-ideal supports (with local movements in the supporting points or base due to the presence of factors such as gaps, unbalanced masses, and friction or seismic excitations) on the responses were investigated. non-ideal s...

The purpose of the present work is to analyze the modulus of elasticity of graphene (Gr) sheet-reinforced metal matrix nanocomposites (MMNCs) using a homogenized model based on the Mori-Tanaka micromechanics approach. The main focus is to investigate the effects of Gr sheet agglomeration on the MMNC macroscopic elastic modulus. Also, the role of aligning Gr sheets in the mechanical performance ...

temper rolling or skin pass rolling is one of cold rolling processes composed of a horizontal pass cold rolling mill stand. in this process, the thick strip is subjected to very light reduction (0.5–4%) in thickness in the presence of high friction amplitudes. one of the basic parameters of strip rolling processes is temper rolling force. a new rolling force model has been proposed for temper r...

A new three-dimensional unit cell model has been developed for modeling three constituent phases including inclusion, interphase and matrix. The total elastic modulus of nano-composite is evaluated.  Numerical results are in good agreement with the previous proposed theoretical modeling. Higher matrix and inclusion elastic modulus both can dramatically influence the total elastic modulus.

The stresses which must be maintained on faults bounding the rift topography at Tempe Fossae—the “North Tempe Rift” (NTR)— and Valles Marineris (VM) on Mars are estimated, using a simple elastic model and topographic data from the Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter (MOLA). The absence of rift-flank uplift at the NTR is consistent with an elastic thickness, Te, of 20 km or greater at the time of rift ...

Effective cell invasion into thick electrospun biomimetic scaffolds is an unsolved problem. One possible strategy to biofabricate tissue constructs of desirable thickness and material properties without the need for cell invasion is to use thin (<2 µm) porous electrospun meshes and self-assembling (capable of tissue fusion) tissue spheroids as building blocks. Pre-stretched electrospun meshes r...

This chapter discusses the advantages and feasibility of using compliant actuators in exoskeletons. We designed compliant actuation for use in a gait rehabilitation robot. In such a gait rehabilitation robot large forces are required to support the patient. In case of poststroke patients only the affected leg has to be supported while the movement of the unaffected leg should not be hindered. N...
