STUDY DESIGN Retrospective follow-up study on the result of surgical treatment for patients with degenerative lumbar spondylolisthesis (DLS) using cortical bone trajectory (CBT) technique. PURPOSE To evaluate the capability of CBT to manage patients with DLS. OVERVIEW OF LITERATURE CBT is a recently advocated, novel, less-invasive technique of lumbar pedicle screw, which provides enhanced s...

This study examined the effects of bilateral excitotoxic lesions of the nucleus accumbens core (NAc-co), dorsomedial striatum (DMS) or dorsolateral striatum (DLS) of rats on the learning and extinction of Pavlovian and instrumental components of conditioned avoidance responses (CARs). None of the lesions caused sensorimotor deficits that could affect locomotion. Lesions of the NAc-co, but not D...

We formalize the digital library (DL) integration problem and propose an overall approach based on the 5S (Streams, Structures, Spaces, Scenarios, and Societies) framework. We then apply that framework to integrate domain-specific (archaeological) DLs, illustrating our solutions for key problems in DL integration. An integrated Archaeological DL, ETANA-DL, is used as a case study to justify and...

Digital Libraries (DLs) have traditionally been positioned at the intersection of library science, computer science, and networked information systems. The different underlying philosophies of these three fields has had an unsettling influence on the development of DLs. While library science is fairly mature, networked information systems are constantly evolving to keep pace with Internet innov...

The dorsal striatum has two functionally-defined subdivisions: a dorsomedial striatum (DMS) region involved in mediating goal-directed behaviors that require conscious effort, and a dorsolateral striatum (DLS) region involved in the execution of habitual behaviors in a familiar sensory context. Consistent with its presumed role in forming stimulus-response (S-R) associations, neurons in DLS rec...

A facile and sensitive immunoassay protocol for the detection of alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) was developed using gold-coated iron oxide magnetic nanoclusters and dynamic light scattering (DLS) methods. The increase in the average particle size due to AFP-mediated aggregation was measured using DLS, and the detection limit was better than 0.01 ng mL(-1).

General Concept Inclusion (GCIs) absorption algorithms have shown to play an important role in classical Description Logics (DLs) reasoners, as they allow to transform GCIs into simpler forms to which apply specialised inference rules, resulting in an important performance gain. In this work, we develop a first absorption algorithm for fuzzy DLs, and evaluate it over some ontologies.

Since the introduction of the Semantic Web vision (BernersLee, Hendler, & Lassila, 2001), attempts have been made for making Web resources more machine interpretable by giving them a well-defined meaning through semantic markups. One way to encode such semantic markups is to use ontologies. An ontology is “an explicit specification of a conceptualization” (Gruber, 1993). Informally, an ontology...

This paper describes briefly the design rationale and philosophy of our implementation of a Wiki-G-Portal project, integrating Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia, into G-Portal, a Web-based digital library, of geography resources. Initial findings from pilot study seemed to suggest positive perceptions on usefulness and usability of Wiki-G-Portal, as well as subjects’ attitude and intention to u...

Description Logics (DLs) are a family of knowledge representation formalisms mainly characterised by constructors to build complex concepts and roles from atomic ones. Expressive role constructors are important in many applications, but can be computationally problemat-ical. We present an algorithm that decides satissability of the DL ALC extended with transitive and inverse roles, role hierarc...
