A single oral dose of chlortenoxicam 4 mg, a new non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug, significantly antagonized the diuretic and natriuretic actions of frusemide when compared with placebo in normal human volunteers. Indomethacin 50 mg significantly reduced the natriuretic, but not diuretic action of frusemide.

The diuretic activity of concentrated ethanolic extract of Aerva lanata (Linn) & Aerva tomentosa Forsk on healthy albino rats were studied with frusemide as reference drug. The urine output increased with concentrated ethanolic extract of Aerva lanata only. In this case the level of electrolytes in urine also increased. But the diuretic activity was mild as compared to frusemide.

Diuretic abuse has been invoked as the cause of idiopathic oedema. In this study, eight patients with idiopathic oedema were studied. Symptoms and weight variation continued despite the proven absence of diuretics in seven of them as determined by urinary chromatograms. Idiopathic oedema cannot therefore be attributed to diuretic use alone.
