This paper presents the experimental observation of the degradation in asymmetric sampled grating DFB lasers by the accelerated life tests. Two degradation phenomena related to the electrical characteristics of LDs are observed during the tests. The first degradation phenomenon by increasing the reverse current is considered as a formation of leakage current path enough to prevent lasing operat...

A distributed feedback laser is fabricated in Er3+-doped photonic crystal fibre. Preferential single-mode lasing is obtained with no special consideration of polarisation issues. The results demonstrate practical implementation of a multi-photon writing process for complex structures in these optical fibres. No hydrogen loading and no germanium are involved.

We report the demonstration of low order distributed feedback DFB optofluidic dye lasers with reduced threshold. The laser chips were realized in polydimethylsiloxane using replica molding with two masters. A comparison between first, second, and third order DFB dye lasers was performed, while the second order DFB dye laser exhibited the lowest pump threshold of 78 nJ/pulse. Compared to previou...

An optically-pumped, integrated distributed feedback laser is demonstrated using a CMOS compatible process, where a record-low-temperature deposited gain medium enables integration with active devices such as modulators and detectors. A pump threshold of 24.9 mW and a slope efficiency of 1.3 % is demonstrated at the lasing wavelength of 1552.98 nm. The rare-earth-doped aluminum oxide, used as t...

On-chip, high-power, erbium-doped distributed feedback lasers are demonstrated in a CMOS-compatible fabrication flow. The laser cavities consist of silicon nitride waveguide and grating features, defined by wafer-scale immersion lithography and an erbium-doped aluminum oxide layer deposited as the final step in the fabrication process. The large mode size lasers demonstrate single-mode continuo...

The first example of an all-organic oligofluorene truxene based distributed feedback laser for the detection of a specific protein-small molecule interaction is reported. The protein avidin was detected down to 1 μg mL(-1) using our biotin-labelled biosensor platform. This interaction was both selective and reversible when biotin was replaced with desthiobiotin. Avidin detection was not perturb...

We demonstrate an optically pumped hybrid III-V/Si distributed feedback laser with a small footprint, using sidewall modulated Bragg gratings for optical feedback. Our approach provides high overlap between lasing mode and gain medium and may enable hybrid lasers with improved efficiency, reduced threshold, and minimal size. We fabricate the structure using plasma-assisted wafer bonding, follow...

GaAs-GaAlAs double-heterostructure distributed-feedback injection lasers are investigated a t temperatures between 80 and 150 K under pulsed operation. The optical feedback for laser oscillation is provided by a corrugated interface between the p-GaAs active layer and the pGaA1As layer. The corrugation is made by two methods, ion milling and chemical etching, and the latter method is found to g...

Recovering the frequency of incoming data sequences in optical transmission lines is important for signal processing. It has been suggested to use all-optical devices, for instance lasers diodes, for this purpose. Recently, self-pulsations have experimentally been discovered in multi-section distributed-feedback lasers. If a self-pulsating laser is exposed to an external data signal, it is expe...
