Hard-ligand, high-potential copper sites have been characterized in double mutants of Pseudomonas aeruginosa azurin (C112D/M121X (X = L, F, I)). These sites feature a small A(zz)(Cu) splitting in the EPR spectrum together with enhanced electron transfer activity. Due to these unique properties, these constructs have been called "type zero" copper sites. In contrast, the single mutant, C112D, ...
Autocorrelation functions are computed for nonspherical particles whose dimensions are comparable to or greater than the wavelength of scattered light. Particular attention is given to models of motile microorganisms. Results for Gaussian ellipsoids, finite thin rods, ellipsoids with internal structures, and dumbbell-shaped scatterers are derived and compared.
We present an approach for elastic registration of 3D tomographic images which is based on a set of corresponding anatomical point landmarks and takes into account anisotropic landmark localization errors in form of 3D error ellipsoids. The 3D error ellipsoids are directly estimated from the image data. The performance of our approach is demonstrated for 2D and 3D MR images of the human brain.
Unusual CoS(2) ellipsoids with anisotropic tube-like cavities have been synthesized from the simultaneous thermal decomposition and sulfidation of a preformed cobalt carbonate precursor. The as-prepared CoS(2) ellipsoids show interesting supercapacitive properties with high capacitance and good cycling performance.
An asymmetric restricted primitive model (ARPM) of electrolytes is proposed as a simple three parameter (charge q, diameter d, and charge displacement b) model of ionic liquids and solutions. Charge displacement allows electrostatic and steric interactions to operate between different centres, so that orientational correlations arise in ion-ion interactions. In this way the ionic system may hav...
Motivated by classical works of Schechtman and Schmuckenschläger on intersections ℓp-balls recent ones in information-based complexity relating random sections ellipsoids the quality information approximation problems, we study threshold behavior asymptotic volume generalized p-ellipsoids. The non-critical is determined under a spectral flatness (Wiener entropy) condition semi-axes. In order to...
Before giving the mathematical description of the Löwner-John ellipsoids and pointing out some of their far-ranging applications, I briefly illuminate the adventurous life of the two eminent mathematicians, by whom the ellipsoids are named: Charles Loewner (Karel Löwner) and Fritz John. Karel Löwner was born into a Jewish family in Lány, a small town about 30 km west of Prague, in 1893. Due to ...
