A n expert system has been developed to detect epileptiform activity in EEGs. Epileptiform events are reported as definite or probable, which helps overcome the problem of maintaining satisfactory detection rates, while minimizing false detections. The system has been evaluated on EEGs f r o m 81 patients, a total of 380 minutes of recordings. O n average the system detected 53% of epileptiform...

The study's objective was to assess the nature, rate, predictive factors, and neuroimaging correlates of novel (new-onset) definite anxiety disorders and novel definite/subclinical anxiety disorders (in a broader group of children with at least subclinical anxiety disorders) after traumatic brain injury (TBI). Children with TBI from consecutive admissions to five trauma centers were enrolled an...

In this paper the capacitated hub location problem is formulated by a minimax regret model, which takes into account uncertain setup cost and demand. We focus on hub location with multiple allocations as a strategic problem requiring one definite solution. Investigating how deterministic models may lead to sub-optimal solutions, we provide an efficient formulation method for the problem. A comp...

Abstract: This paper deals with the linear theory of isotropic micropolar thermoviscoelastic materials. When the dissipation is positive definite, we present two uniqueness theorems. The first one requieres the extra assumption that some coupling terms vanish; in this case, the instability of solutions is also proved. When the internal energy and the dissipation are both positive definite, we p...

We develop a computationally efficient approximation of the maximum likelihood (ML) detector for 16 Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (16QAM) in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) systems. The detector is based on a semi definite relaxation (SDR) of the ML problem. The resulting optimization is a semi definite program (SDP) which can be solved in polynomial time with respect to the number of i...

In this paper, a descent line search scheme is proposed to find local minimum point of non-convex optimization problem with simple constraints. The idea ensures that the escapes saddle points and finally settles for problem. A positive definite scaling matrix formed through symmetric indefinite factorization Hessian objective function at each iteration. numerical illustration provided, global c...

This paper studies the continuous-domain inverse problem of recovering Radon measures on one-dimensional torus from low-frequency Fourier coefficients, where Kc is cutoff frequency. Our approach consists in minimizing total-variation norm among all that are consistent with observations. We call this basis pursuit continuum (BPC). characterize solution set (BPC) terms uniqueness and describe its...

An essential cycle on a surface is a simple cycle that cannot be continuously deformed to a point or a single boundary. We describe algorithms to compute the shortest essential cycle in an orientable combinatorial surface in O(n2 log n) time, or in O(n log n) time when both the genus and number of boundaries are fixed. Our results correct an error in a paper of Erickson and Har-Peled [DCG 2004].

Nowadays, web archives preserve the history of large portions of the web. As medias are shifting from printed to digital editions, accessing these huge information sources is drawing increasingly more attention from national and international institutions, as well as from the research community. These collections are intrinsically big, leading to index files that do not fit into the memory and ...

We argue that traditional sequencing technology developed in the field of intelligent tutoring systems could find an immediate place in largescale web-based education. This paper discusses two models that have been explored by the authors – the dynamic course generation system DCG and the concept-based course maintenance system CoCoA. DCG includes components for domain authoring and for automat...
