A PCR assay, using three primer pairs, was developed for the detection of Ureaplasma urealyticum, parvo biovar, mba types 1, 3, and 6, in cultured clinical specimens. The primer pairs were designed by using the polymorphic base positions within a 310- to 311-bp fragment of the 5' end and upstream control region of the mba gene. The specificity of the assay was confirmed with reference serovars ...

We produced a monoclonal antibody (MAb) to Ureaplasma urealyticum Vancouver, the serotype 9 standard strain. By immunoblotting, this MAb showed a single, 85-kDa band with the homologous serotype and a minor, 100-kDa band with serotype 2 but did not react with any other serotype standard strain. Clinical isolates of U. urealyticum were tested with this MAb and with two sets of polyclonal antiser...

In 17 out of 102 patients with clinically diagnosed chronic prostatitis the disease could be attributed to known urogenital tract pathogens. Of the remaining 85 patients, Ureaplasma urealyticum was isolated from 38, Chlamydia trachomatis from five, and both organisms together from two. The results of antimicrobial treatment of the patients suggest an etiological relationship between Ureaplasma ...

AIMS To determine if erythromycin given from birth reduces the inflammatory response and the incidence and severity of chronic lung disease. METHODS Seventy five infants less than 30 weeks of gestation and ventilated from birth for lung disease were randomly assigned to receive erythromycin intravenously for 7 days or to no treatment. Ureaplasma urealyticum was detected in tracheal secretions...

background ureaplasma urealyticum (u. urealyticum) and mycoplasma hominis (m. hominis) are two important pathogens in neonatal respiratory tract infections. as low gestational age and birth weight increase the colonization rate with these pathogens, and they are also risk factors of chronic lung disease (cld), it is difficult to establish a statistically significant relation between these two f...

The genus Corynebacterium includes Gram-positive species with a high G+C content. We report here a novel species, Corynebacterium kefirresidentii SB, isolated from kefir grains collected in Germany. Its draft genome sequence was remarkably dissimilar (average nucleotide identity, 76.54%) to those of other Corynebacterium spp., confirming that this is a unique novel species.

Very little is known about the microbial composition of animal bedding wastes, including poultry litter, and what is known has been deduced from standard culture methods, by which some fastidious organisms that exist in the environment may not be detected. We evaluated the bacterial composition of poultry litter by using a combination of culture and molecular detection. Total aerobic bacteria i...

Corynebacterium species are increasingly recognized as important pathogens in granulomatous mastitis. Currently, there are no published treatment protocols for Corynebacterium breast infections. This study describes antimicrobial treatment options in the context of other management strategies used for granulomatous mastitis. Corynebacterium spp. isolated from breast tissue and aspirate samples ...

Nonlipophilic corynebacteria associated with clinical and subclinical mastitis in dairy cows were found to belong to four species: Corynebacterium amycolatum, Corynebacterium ulcerans, Corynebacterium pseudotuberculosis, and Corynebacterium minutissimum. These species may easily be confused. However, clear-cut differences between C. ulcerans and C. pseudotuberculosis were found in their acid pr...
