Layered double hydroxide (LDH) has attracted considerable attention as a drug carrier. However, because of its poor in vivo behavior, polyethylene glycolylated (PEGylated) phospholipid must be used as a coformer to produce self-assembled core-shell nanoparticles. In the present study, we prepared a PEGylated phospholipid-coated LDH (PLDH) (PEG-PLDH) delivery system. The PEG-PLDH nanoparticles h...

Efficient control of optical radiation at subwavelength scales plays important roles for various applications. Dielectric nanoparticles or dielectric shells with a large refractive index of n ~ 3-4, which are only achievable for limited semiconductors, are involved in most designs so far to control the scattering by overlapping the electric and magnetic dipolar modes of the same magnitude. Here...

The surface of lanthanide(III)-doped LaPO4 nanoparticles was modified by reaction with an alcohol, leading to a covalent bond between the ligand and the particle surface. The surface of lanthanide(III)-doped LaF3 nanoparticles was modified to alter the solubility of the nanoparticles and study the influence of surface effects on the luminescence of lanthanide ions doped in the nanoparticles. Th...

The main aim of this study was to prepare apple pomace polyphenolic extract (APPE- referred to as a core) loaded into biodegradable and commercially available natural polymer such as maltodextrin (MD-referred to as a shell). The polymer coating potentially improves its low stability and bioavailability and also directs the control release of the encapsulated material. The MD-nanoparticles (NPs)...

We have investigated the segregation of Pt atoms to the surfaces of Pt-Re nanoparticles using the Monte Carlo method and modified embedded-atom method potentials that we have developed for Pt-Re alloys. The Pt(75)Re(25) nanoparticles (containing from 586 to 4,033 atoms) are assumed to have disordered fcc configurations and cubo-octahedral shapes (terminated by [111] and [100] facets), while the...

Pyridine-protected CdSe nanoparticles decorated SWNTs spontaneously, producing a large loading of CdSe nanoparticles on the SWNTs. The absorption spectrum of this hybrid material reflects those of the components. CdSe nanoparticles of different diameters, core-shell nanoparticles, and nanorods were shown to decorate SWNTs this way, showing the versatility of this technique.

Introduction: In the present study, we investigated the role of gold-silica shell-core nanoparticle in megavoltage irradiation of MCF7 breast cancer cells.   Materials and Methods: gold-silicon oxide shell-core nanoparticles (NPs) were obtained by conjugation of gold nanoparticle with amine or thiol functionalized silica nanoparticles (AuN@SiO2 and AuS@SiO...

The vibrational density of states (VDOS) of metal nanoparticles can be a fingerprint of their geometrical structure and determine their low-temperature thermal properties. Theoretical and experimental methods are available nowadays to calculate and measure it over a size range of 1-4 nm. In this work, we present theoretical results regarding the VDOS of Ag-Au icosahedral nanoparticles with a co...

We demonstrate that incorporation of octadecyltrimethoxysilane (OTMS)-functionalized, spectrally tuned, gold/silica (Au/SiO2) core/shell nanospheres and nanorods into the active layer of an organic photovoltaic (OPV) device led to an increase in photoconversion efficiency (PCE). A silica shell layer was added onto Au core nanospheres and nanorods in order to provide an electrically insulating s...

Synthesis of core-shell nanoparticles by surface initiated reversible addition fragmentation chain transfer polymerization in presence of a chiral template conjugated to magnetic nanoparticles is reported. The approach leads to imprinted nanoparticles featuring enantioselectivity and enhanced affinity compared to nanoparticles prepared using free template.
