We report a case of chronic exertional compartment syndrome (CECS) affecting the volar forearm compartment of an elite rower. CECS of the forearm is a less well recognised entity than lower limb CECS. We describe a typical history and detail a potential treatment.

Chronic compartment syndrome (CCS) is usually considered to be due to ischaemia of muscle. We have attempted to use the direct measurement of muscle blood flow for diagnosis since the assessment of intracompartmental pressure does not provide accurate knowledge of the vascular state. We recorded simultaneously continuous measurements of the laser Doppler flow (LDF) in muscle and the intracompar...

Compartment syndrome of the extremities is a rare but potentially devastating condition. Anaesthetic and analgesic drugs used in the perioperative period may cause a delayed diagnosis by preventing the symptoms from appearing, and irreversible complications can occur. In this report, a case of compartment syndrome secondary to vascular access and its treatment in a morbidly obese patient who un...

Intracompartmental pressure monitoring remains the primary method of diagnosing chronic compartment syndrome. MIBI perfusion imaging is widely available and offers a radionuclear imaging technique for diagnosing this condition. Although the results are not identical with those from pressure monitoring, MIBI may offer a useful screening test for this condition.

Extravasation of contrast agents is a possible complication of imaging studies. Although extravasations typically cause minimal swelling or erythema, they can lead to compartment syndrome when the volume of extravasation is high. In this article, we will present an exceptional case where an insignificant amount of contrast agent extravasation led to a forearm compartment syndrome in a newborn, ...

We present a patient with spontaneous compartment syndrome of the upper extremity in association with nephrotic syndrome and transient bacteremia, of which the exact cause of compartment syndrome was unclear. This is an extremely rare occurrence, and index of suspicion should be maintained even in the absence of trauma when a patient presents with acute swelling of the upper or lower extremity ...

Elevation of pressure within tightly bound myofascial compartments has detrimental consequences if not treated promptly, leading to a loss of circulation, ischemia, myonecrosis, nerve damage, and limb loss. They are commonly seen in the distal upper and lower extremities; however, compartment syndrome of the hand is rarely encountered and prompt recognition can prevent permanent damage and tiss...

This study reports the long-term effectiveness of meniscal allograft transplantation performed by a single senior operating surgeon. In this study 22 meniscus transplantations in 22 patients were evaluated at a minimum of 7-year follow-up (mean 8.5 +/- 1.3 years) using standardized scoring scales. Subgroup analysis was performed to stratify outcomes based on medial (59.1%) versus lateral (40.9%...
