the cold roll bonding of al on aisi 304l stainless steel was carried out to fabricate the al/304l/al clad sheet composites. the maximum bond strength of 20 n/mm was acquired just by 38% reduction, for which the tearing of the aluminum sheet occurred during the peeling test. the microstructural evolution during subsequent postannealing heat treatment was systematically studied based on the impur...

1. The photonic-crystal fibres In conventional optical fibres, electromagnetic modes are guided by a phenomenon of total internal reflection on a core-cladding border. The core refractive index is higher than the refractive index of a cladding which is achieved by adequate doping of a central part of the based material [1]. After over 20 years of intense researches on optical fibres, including ...

In this paper we demonstrate a simple temperature and strain discriminating sensor based on a single fibre Bragg grating inscribed by a femtosecond laser via the point-by-point technique. These gratings exhibit strong and extensive cladding mode structures and by simultaneously monitoring both the Bragg wavelength and a cladding mode spaced by ~ 40 nm from the Bragg peak, as a function of both ...

A two-dimensional computational model of a loaded used nuclear fuel canister filled with helium gas was constructed to predict the cladding temperature during vacuum drying conditions. It includes distinct regions for the fuel pellets, cladding and helium within each basket opening. Symmetry boundary conditions are employed so that only one-eighth of the package cross-section is included, and t...

We have fabricated an ytterbium doped all-glass double-clad large mode area holey fiber. A highly efficient cladding pumped single transverse mode holey fiber laser has been demonstrated, allowing continuous-wave output powers in excess of 1W with efficiencies of more than 80%. Furthermore both Q-switched and mode-locked operation of the laser have been demonstrated.

A two-dimensional computational model of a spent 7x7 Boiling Water Reactor assembly in a horizontal support basket was developed using the Fluent computational fluid dynamics package. Heat transfer simulations were performed to predict the maximum cladding temperature for assembly heat generation rates between 100 and 600W, uniform basket wall temperatures of 25 and 4000C, and with helium and n...

There have been many efforts to adjust temperature-dependent wavelength shift (TDWS) of a photonic waveguide device using a cladding material with a negative thermo-optic coefficient (TOC) differently from a core material with a positive TOC (Kokubun et al., 1998; Lee et al., 2007, 2008; Alipour et al., 2010; Guha et al., 2013; Bovington et al., 2014; Lee, 2014). Polymers have been popularly us...

Aluminum and aluminum alloys can be protected against corrosion by various methods of surface modification (e.g., metal finishing, anodizing, chromate conversion coatings, metallic cladding with Alclad, corrosion protection compounds, and solution phase inhibitors). The desire to deploy environmentally compliant multi-functional coatings has created the need for new concepts that can protect Al...

Fuel-Cladding Chemical Interaction (FCCI) in metallic nuclear fuels is a key phenomenon that limits the maximum burn-up and operating power as it can cause premature failure of fuel cladding. Therefore, being able to accurately predict interactions fuel-cladding system by means thermodynamic calculations contributes our understanding how mitigate this mechanism. In order test capabilities Therm...
