Background and purpose: Despite extensive investigations, application of surface electromyography (SËMG) in the evaluation of rehabilitation programme for the patients suffering from chronic low back pain (ÇLBP) has yet to be conclusively demonstrated. Ïn a randomised controlled trial, effectiveness of spinal manipulation therapy (SMT) compared with therapeutic ultrasound (ÜS) in the treatme...

Introduction: There are various animal models to investigate neuropathic pain which the most usual one is chronic constriction injury method. The aim of the present study was the evaluation of neuropathic pain following chronic spiral suturing around the sciatic nerve without ligation as a new model. Materials and Methods: Thirty Wistar male rats, weighting 180-220 gram randomly were divided in...

Background: Functional disability, impaired balance, and trunk muscle endurance are among the major changes in patients with Non-Specific Chronic Low Back Pain (NCLBP). Investigating the relationship between these factors and Functional Movement Screen (FMS) can facilitate effective pain management and functional problems in these patients. This study aimed to assess the relationships between F...

Decreased physical activity resulting in muscle loss is often observed in patients with chronic kidney disease and is one of the main predictors of mortality in these patients. Exercise training may improve physical activity and prevent muscle loss in patients with chronic kidney disease. Efforts to introduce exercise training to these patients may be clinically beneficial by reducing their mor...

Background: Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic disease with a profound effect on the life quality of the patients due to its chronic, painful, and disabling nature. Objectives: This study aimed to determine the effects of progressive muscle relaxation technique on life quality in RA patients. Methods: This clinical trial was conducted in a rheumatologist office on 62 RA patients. The part...

We sought to determine the effects of age and chronic exercise on muscle power in older males. We examined 32 older males 60-74 years of age and grouped as sedentary (CON, n = 11), chronic endurance trained (ET, n = 10), and chronic endurance trained + resistance training (ET + RT, n = 11). Exercise history was obtained by questionnaire. Absolute strength and power measures were obtained by the...

The anterior tibial (AT) muscle of 6 female Wistar rats aged 35-44 months, was examined by an electron microscopy. Previously, significant age-dependent functional and morphological deficits were found in these rats including [1] a strongly decreased muscle mass and force, [2] muscle stiffness, [3] spontaneous, tonic electromyographic activity, and [4] light-microscopic features of chronic dene...

Rupture of the pectoralis major muscle is relatively rare. The authors present two cases of chronic rupture in which direct suturing was not possible; reconstruction was possible using a bone-patellar tendon autograft. They conclude that this surgical technique may be useful in some cases of chronic ruptures of the pectoralis major muscle in which direct tendon suturing is impossible.

[Purpose] The aim of this study was to determine the effects of mental practice on muscle activity of the upper extremity and performance of daily activities in chronic stroke patients. [Subjects and Methods] In this research, mental practice was conducted by 2 chronic hemiplegic stroke patients. Mental practice was conducted 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week, for 2 weeks. Evaluation was conduct...

Background: Hindlimb Unloading (HLU) is used to simulate microgravity in rats and has been shown to decrease contractile response in the abdominal aorta. The aim of present study was to investigate the contractile responses of smooth muscle of thoracic aorta following acute and chronic microgravity treatment.  Methods: Male adult rats (Wistar) were subjected to HLU for 3 and 20 days t...
