Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERCP) is widely used as a first-line therapy for biliary drainage. ERCP occasionally fails owing to anatomical or technical problems, despite high reported success rates. Endoscopic ultrasound-guided biliary drainage (EUS-BD) has recently emerged as an effective alternative biliary drainage method after unsuccessful ERCP. EUS-BD can be essentially divided ...
Endoscopic treatment of biliary strictures involving plastic stent placement has been used widely. The use of self-expandable metal stents (SEMSs) has been described for anastomotic strictures following liver transplantation (LT). This review aimed to assess and compare the efficacy of plastic stents with SEMS in LT patients. Information was retrieved regarding technical success, stricture reso...
BACKGROUND Among physicians who perform endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP), the relationship between procedure volume and outcome is unknown. OBJECTIVE Quantify the ERCP volume-outcome relationship by measuring provider-specific failure rates, hospitalization rates, and other quality measures. RESEARCH DESIGN Retrospective cohort. SUBJECTS A total of 16,968 ERCPs perfor...
Percutaneous cholangiography with the Okuda needle was performed in 42 consecutive patients with a clinical diagnosis of obstructive jaundice. Six had intrahepatic cholestasis. The technique demonstrated the biliary anatomy in 41 patients and the radiological diagnosis was confirmed by laparotomy, necropsy, or liver biopsy. There were no significant complications. Laparotomy, when indicated, wa...
Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a very frequently performed procedure. Its most dreadful complication is bile duct injury. Difficulty in appreciating the biliary anatomy plays an important role in its causation. Here we describe our technique in clarifying the difficult anatomy by directly injecting the radiologic contrast in the ambiguous area, and thus avoiding a potential injury.
index of 50 was admitted to our intensive care unit with the clinical appearance of severe biliary pancreatitis. Bedside ultra− sonography was difficult due to the pa− tient’s obesity but revealed a dilated common bile duct (l" Fig. 1). Convention− al endoscopic retrograde cholangiogra− phy (ERC) with X−rays was considered impossible due to the obesity. Bedside endosonography (EG 383OUT; Pentax...
BACKGROUND To determine if cholecystectomy can be performed satisfactorily without the use of adjunctive intraoperative cholangiography (IOC), we planned a retrospective analysis at a Canadian university teaching hospital. METHODS General operative morbidity and mortality (in particular, occurrences and complications of missed choledocholithiasis and reoperations for same, and occurrences of ...
Introduction: Nowadays, we are witnessing an exponential use of interventional radiology techniques in different communities. After CT, interventional techniques are the second factor of increasing patients’ doses in different societies. Measuring patient doses from aforementioned methods has been recommended by many radiation protection professional organizations such as ICRP...
Abstract Background There is increasing evidence that single session laparoscopic cholecystectomy with cholangiography and, when necessary and available, bile duct exploration offers optimal clinical outcomes superior cost benefits to patients suspected stones. a perception preoperative endoscopic clearance of stones in presenting pancreatitis jaundice. However, most do not have severe disease ...
