Paenibacillus larvae strain MEX14 is a facultative anaerobic endospore-forming bacterium that infects Apis mellifera larvae. Strain MEX14 was isolated from domestic bee larvae collected in a backyard in Mexico City. The estimated genome size was determined to be 4.18 Mb, and it harbors 4,806 protein coding genes (CDSs).
Relative to their scarcity, large, deep lakes support a large proportion of the world's freshwater species. This biodiversity is threatened by human development and is in need of conservation. Direct comparison of biodiversity is the basis of biological monitoring for conservation but is difficult to conduct between large, insular ecosystems. The objective of our study was to conduct such a com...
Sediment characteristics are well known to interfere with toxicity, mainly through differences in terms of bioaccumulation. Here, with chironomids exposed to zinc in an artificial and a field sediment, we investigated the differences of zinc accumulation and of effects on the life cycle, at individual and population level. We used biology and energy-based modeling to analyze the data at all the...
american foulbrood (afb) disease is caused by the sporeforming bacterium paenibacillus larvae larvae. traditional diagnosis is based on culture technique is time and laboratory work consuming. in this study with standard strain, pcr was developed by specific primers and pcr products were electrophoresed on 0.8 % agarose gel. the pcr primers were selected on the basis of the 16s rrna gene and am...
Collective behavior in biological systems is often accompanied by strong correlations. The question has therefore arisen of whether correlation is amplified by the vicinity to some critical point in the parameters space. Biological systems, though, are typically quite far from the thermodynamic limit, so that the value of the control parameter at which correlation and susceptibility peak depend...
The locomotory kinematics of Chironomus plumosus larvae and pupae were investigated in order to determine how different locomotory techniques may be related to (a) possible underlying patterns of muscle activation and (b) the particular lifestyles and behaviours of these juvenile stages. Larvae display three independent modes of motile activity: swimming, crawling and whole-body respiratory und...
UNLABELLED Chironomids are insects which inhabit wetlands. In countries such as Sudan, The United States. Egypt and Japan they are the cause of serious environmental allergy. In Europe, and particularly in Spain, allergy to Chironomids is infrequent and has only been described in patients who handle Chironomid larvae which form part of certain fish foods. MATERIALS AND METHODS We report a cas...
